Seven villagers injured in Ubon Ratchathani pickup crash

By The Nation

A speeding pickup truck carrying one tonne of catfish hit the rear of a pickup truck taking villagers to collect wild mushroom, injuring the villagers and spilling the fish onto an Ubon Ratchathani road early on Wednesday.

Police said the accident happened in front of a PTT petrol station on Satit Nimankal road in Tambon Don Chik in Phibun Mangsahan district.

The drivers of the two pickups were not injured but the seven villagers on the back of a vehicle were injured as they were hurled onto the road by the impact.

Police said the pickup driven by Charan Thomsup was leaving the petrol station when the catfish pickup driven by Thaninrat Jirabenjawat, 44, hit its rear.

The crash caused the catfish to spill onto the road. This prompted police, passers-by and local residents to help catch the fish and return them to Thaninrat.

This bit may be relevant.

The opening paragraph lays the blame on "Catfish Pick-Up" but having witnessed the Thai pulling out into traffic manoeuvre on many occasions, "Mushroom Pick-Up" may have played a part in its own demise and that of its occupants, "Mushroom Pickers".

I await the results of a full and detailed police investigation. ?

And they really returned all the fish :whistling:

They don't say?

And still the authorities will do ... precisely nothing.

I thought that riding in the back of a pickup was illegal, except at Songkran time ????

It went onto the backburner during Songkran 2017. And is now thoroughly incinerated.
