MadameM Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Any suggestion for getting Thai driver license! I have California driver license. I wonder how long I can use my CA driver license in Thailand, or I can't use it at all. Also, can I get Thai driver license using my CA driver license as a reference so that I don't have to go through the training, the paper test, and the driving test just to start off with temporary driver license?
poanoi Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 yes, find out where DLT is in your neck of the woods, its going to be a simple reference to your existing DL so no tests. you can not use your CA DL here, its not valid. 1
cornishcarlos Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Do a search on this forum and you will find all the info you require. Just type Drivers Licence into the search box, top right of your screen !! 1
Randell Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 hello again Madam M I recently did this myself. and because my Canadian licence was still valid I was able to convert it over to a Thai DL. I did have to take and color test and peripheral vision test as well as watch a 30 to 40 minute video. as Cornish Carlos has suggested check on TV forum for all your particulars. ie medical certificate, copy of DL copy of passport, copy of house paper. And I think that where you will be staying (Condotel) will help you with copies of necessary parer to prove your residency. But there has been a fair bit of info on this topic lately and shoulds all be well documenter in the forum. all the best Oh and by the way if you need a motorcycle license as well it will end up being tow sets of everything or at least it was in my case. although in my case I had to drive it and write the exam because my cycle licence was out of date by more than a year. I wish you luck . I hope this was helpful. Randell 1
Popular Post MadameM Posted June 15, 2018 Author Popular Post Posted June 15, 2018 Thank you Randell ? I also found my Thai driver license after an hour of diving into my junk. It is a life-time driver license, which I've heard they don't give you life-time driver license any more. That brings in a lot of good memories of "yesterday when I was young." It's my first DL for my first car coming with my first job. The girl in the DL picture was so cute.. Hee! Hee! Anyway, I am very old now and use my married name, not the maiden name as shown in the DL. I will bring them both Thai DL and CA DL and all the documents I can possibly find. It's amazing that Thai Visa is an amazing place to get the information I shout out for help -- info. that most Thais don't care to know. While I was looking for the DL-how-to, I also came across the info. about mail-forwarding posted by Chicowood... out from Thai Visa, of course. So, I got the site to handle my US-mail, which is very, very important, but I completely forgot! Just want to sent out... LOL to everyone in Thai Visa who kindly gave me the info. treasure! Thanks a million! P.S. Randell, I never want a motorcycle DL. My mom's voice's still behind my ear that "...you just put yourself to protect the metal, and you'll wear your flesh off to the bones before you wear the metal you ride..." Was that scary?? 3
