webfact Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Court sentences Dr Prem two years in prison for stripping journalist to underpants By Thai PBS Former Ban Phai city mayor in Khon Kaen province, Dr Premsak Piayura, and his former secretary were sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday after both were found guilty of locking a local journalist in his city office and forcing him to strip to his underpants. The two-year long court case ended after the Muangphol Provincial Court in Khon Kaen handed down two-year prison terms on Dr. Prem and his then secretary Sub Lt Buathong Lokhan, for depriving the freedom of the journalist Korsit Kongchom, a local journalist and a news stringer for the Bangkok-based Daily News newspaper. He was locked in Prem’s office room and forced to strip to his underpants as a punishment for taking his photos with a teenage girl in a ceremony believed to be a Thai engagement. colinneil Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Well Prem 2 years inside will give you plenty of time to think about the fact you could not keep it in your pants, but rather put in a teenage girls pants. The journalist was just exposing that fact and you got upset.... What a plonker.
sweatalot Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 will he really go to jail? Really do the time? He is a hiso at least
Jonathan Fairfield Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Mayor, aide jailed for stripping reporter to underpants By Kawintra Jaiseu The Nation A veteran Khon Kaen politician and his secretary were on Thursday handed two-month prison sentences for stripping a reporter to his underpants in 2016. The stripping took place on July 29, after the Daily News reporter questioned Muang Ban Phai mayor Premsak Piayura over photos showing him with a schoolgirl and Bt400,000 in front of them. The photos prompted public speculation that the career politician was engaged or married to the girl. In response, Premsak locked the male reporter along with fellow journalists in his office and ordered that he be stripped. Convicted alongside Premsak was his secretary, Second Lt Buathong Lokhan. The court declined to suspend the jail term on grounds the two defendants blatantly violated laws when in fact they should have set good examples for others to follow. Several other reporters were detained alongside the victim and witnessed the stripping. They appeared as witnesses for the plaintiff, whose name was not released. The court was unconvinced by the defendants’ claim that the reporter had deliberately slandered him to secure an advantage for Premsak’s political rival. “There is no evidence whatsoever to back claims that the defendants’ political rival is behind the case coming to court,” the ruling said. The victim thanked the court for delivering justice and protecting the dignity of reporters. “I will keep working for the public interest,” he said. Premsak and his secretary have submitted Bt120,000 bond to secure temporary release. Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/national/30348298 -- © Copyright The Nation 2018-06-21

worgeordie Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 "After the prison sentence, both were put into custody immediately as no suspended jail terms were allowed." This should happen more often, some HiSo's are found guilty, but keep themselves out of prison for years, been out on bail, with numerous appeals. regards worgeordie
toofarnorth Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 As for me , what with PM visiting GB PM I thought this had something to do with John Major.
mahjongguy Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Yeah, two years didn't sound right. ThaiPBS, The Nation, and the Bangkok Post all now agree that the sentence was two months.
