The timer/counter is still running on Thairath TV channel. I presume until everyone is out or through to the hospital. Or its been forgotten. Currently showing 17 Days 3 hours 37 minutes.

Some divers and a doctor still in the cave waiting to come out from what it says on the live twitter report.

A special mention to Sheryl for all your patience, reassurance & medical explanations.

Yes, used to seeing Sheryl mostly in the health and medicine forum where she does a sterling job. Great to see her involvement here.

For those who are asking, the three Thai Navy Seals and the Thai doctor who have stayed with the boys - the four frogs - are also out, as are the dive rescue team.

Reliable source - journalist at the scene, I had sent him a tweet asking

OK now I'm satisfied!!!!!!! And heading to bed early, tired...could not sleep well before.

Thai TV currently reporting them as at the field hospital outside entrance.

Many Thanks enjoy the rest.

Cheers

I live 8 blocks from the hospital and have been hearing the helicopters most of the evening.

Knowing each one was a boy or rescuer was gratifying. The 100's and 100's of news and onlookers just videoing a building not so much.

Just waiting now for all those on Thaivisa who said that this was an impossible result to recant and admit that they were wrong.

I may have to wait quite a long time......... When is Hell due to freeze over anyway?

Who said that?

Copy and Paste and Post.

It was reported earlier that a "Hollywood producer" had arrived and was promising that "A List" stars would appear in the movie.
Turns out, the guy is from a Christian film company that produces blockbusters like "God is (not) Dead", "God is (not) Dead 2" and the thriller "God is (not) Dead - A Light in the Darkness" along with a bunch of other "straight to video" Christian themed movies.

No doubt he is hoping that the words "Hollywood Producer" and "A List stars" will awe everyone and grant him exclusive access.

@Darksidedog also did a great job in some of the earlier threads keeping it factual and removing the rubbish.

Its actually a strange feeling to have a good news story coming from Thailand, obviously not including the death of the Navy Seal in that but i'm so used to hearing about death after death that i really can't remember another proper good story from Thailand, and that's going back to the Tsunami.

Here are two examples. I am not going to waste my time searching for others but, anyone who has followed this incident for 17 days+ can confirm there were several more doubters and obnoxious posters.

But there's  a lot more that we do know. The situation is and was non-survivable.

They took their shoes off to go swimming in an attempt to get out. That tells me they drowned.  I might even start looking for bodies down stream from the cave that already washed out.

Two points I’d like to make.

I think the praise of Narongsak Osatanakorn is well placed. His attitude right from the outset was “Let’s get the best people who can do the job, regardless of where they come from”.  I also think it’s rather telling that, although he was replaced as the Chiang Rai Governor, they did not replace him as leader of the rescue mission.

Another note: On some of the less positive threads and postings, the Thai SEALs were looked upon with some scorn and derision because they are “Open-Water” divers, and not skilled in cave diving.

Well, I’d just like to turn that around. Yes, they did not have the skills or experience in that kind of situation, but they went there anyway and put their lives on the line, even though they may not have had much idea about the circumstances.

I think that makes them doubly brave.

My tuppence worth.

That's because good news is usually no news

This wonderful story of survival and rescue is news because of the extraordinary tale, the struggle against seemingly impossible odds. In addition it's children and one adult who they trust. How can we not feel for them?

And yet every day I bet there are stories all around Thailand of unsung heroes and heroines, people who help their aged neighbours, grandparents taking care of children left by parents with them. Vendors who give food to the homeless.

I've seen a fair bit of kindness over the years, and done as the saying goes, by placing a gold leaf on the back of a statue of the Lord Buddha, i.e no recognition of the kind act performed.

Lets hope the media and all the journalists will leave within 48 hours. Back to normal life.  But I'm afraid they will try to interview the boys and their families.

I have followed this on US television as I am currently in the States.   It has been amazing to watch.   It has mesmerized the entire country.   One of the things I was struck with was the high level of professionalism of all levels of the operation.   Usually you see the encroachment of vendors on the site and a lot of other activity that draws negative attention to how things work (or don't work) in Thailand.   None of that in this situation.

I also notice that they actually let the professionals do their job instead of some politician standing around with everyone waiing and doing something ill-advised.

This has been one huge, successful operation and all segments of Thai society should be exceptionally proud.

I too have been following the threads although not posting for a while 555 but would also like to thank Sheryl, NC170A and others for the great updates. well done to the team for staying strong and hats off to everyone involved in the rescue. it was a great rescue all round and many people should be seriously proud of themselves right now. and RIP Samarn Kunan, your sacrifice will not be forgotten
