Info. required on downloading to a tablet.

I just purchased a tablet so a little unsure on how downloads work. When I connect the tablet to my PC and want to download music or books to the tablet it doesn't specify where I want to download to, only offers "storage", even though I have both music and book reading apps on the tablet. Do I then have to transfer the info. from storage to the appropriate app, and once done can I remove from storage or not? Thanks.

Android tablet?
Music and books will sit nicely in the storage space and then opened via the apps when you need them, so no need to move them unless your tablet got a mini sd card for extra space. If it does you can choose to download stuff there.

I have managed to work out how to open the tablet once connected to the PC, but it doesn't show (on my PC) the 16gb SD card that I have in the tablet, yet when I go into the tablet I can see it says Flash total space 16gb.

Not all areas are writeable to or even visible over such a connection.

Why not just use Google Drive or Onedrive? Much easier and simpler. Or MyPhoneExplorer.

I'm using Onedrive now.
