Popular Post Vaughan Green
I am married to a Thai, and live and work in Bangkok. I've been here a while now, but I'd like to know why it's so rare to see mixed Thai / Farang couples out and about? Where do they hang out in the evenings? Does everyone literally stay in and eat home cooking? I know people stare at us, but it doesn't bother me or her a bit ? 1
Popular Post ratcatcher
Why do people stare at you? Is there a huge age or height difference? Is it the way you or your partner dress or behave? I would have thought a farang/Thai couple in Bangkok would be fairly common? 19

Tambs2020
Really? We dont go to BKK very often (once per year for a cpl of days or so) Always see HEAPS of Farang/Thai cpls ?
malcoml
Where are you located? There are plenty round the main tourist areas. I lived in Narawin in 2009 and you would never see a foreigner. We often went to the Bankapi mall and I would be the only foreigner there. Im guessing your living on the outskirts.
3421abc
I used to see more often, I think most of the expats in Bkk are under 50 and it is difficult to continue living here with the visa situation. I would think 70% of the expats under 50 left. If you go to Ho Chi Minh you will see more now. A lot of young western entrepenours relocated to Vietnam

Yes, and the other 30% will be the ones who don't mind giving away 500.000 Baht for an Elite Visa.

Snow Leopard
You Should have gone to Specsavers. Most couples I meet and see are Anglo/Thai. The Anglo couples I see mostly are tourists. Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect
iroc4life
Married to a Thai 14 yrs, Living in BKK 8 years and very rarely go out in BKK (Due to Traffic). Actually avoid most all Tourist destination in the country, only go where the Thais go. Its way better that way. We do go downtown sometimes for lunch a Burger and a Guiness at The Game ?

Popular Post PerkinsCuthbert
What self-respecting Thai babe would want to be seen in public, in broad daylight, with her thirty-years-older, balding, fat ATM, when with a little judicious planning and lying she can spend an enjoyable evening gossiping on her phone with her friends, while watching Thai soaps from a comfy sofa? We don't hold hands like students, we walk apart, like adult Thais. We dine with friends usually at friends' restaurants to avoid farang tourists arguing over Bt 10 on the menu of a food stall. Vacation in Thailand, we go to friends' hotels in quiet, non-farang places, speak Thai all the time and ignore tourists. Easy.

Popular Post Kinnock
People wandering the streets tend to be lost tourists, the Thai/Foreigner couples are in cars, restaurants or at home. But you'll see a lot in malls at the weekend. It's also common for the couple to move to his home country. And despite what you may hear from the rantings of a few wounded posters, most Thai Wives are keepers - so there's a good chance the couples are at home coupling.

Stupooey
Because of working restrictions for foreigners in Thailand, I would suspect that most long term Westerner/Thai couples of working age live in the man's country. Those that live in Thailand tend to be retired and are less likely to choose to reside in Bangkok. I lived in Bangkok with my Thai wife for five years whilst teaching; we went out regularly, but tended to avoid the tourist ghettos such as Sukhumvit, Banglamphu and Silom, preferring to socialise in outlying districts. An earlier poster mentioned The Mall, Bangkapi, which we frequented regularly from 2009 to 2014 and would normally see two or three other similar couples, but not many. On my retirement we moved out of the Smoke to a life of countryside and coastline.
swissie
I can just see it: - 2 Farang/Thai couples sitting together in a restaurant. The Ladies only talk to each other (in Thai). The Farangs only talk to each other (in English). - But still, after 10 minutes one Lady will find that her Farang is paying too much attention to the other Farangs Lady. One Farang will find that the other Farang is paying too much attention to his Lady. After 15 minutes, insults and blows will be exchanged. This bringing a friendly get-together of 2 Farang/Thai couples to an abrupt end. Cheers.

So, in your mind it could only be the Thai girls who wanted to go out and couldn't get away alone, or maybe those who wanted to show-off their ATMs for bragging rights over the other ladies of negotiable virtue who would even go out with their fat balding old farangs. However, I neither saw the fat balding old farang caveat nor the reference to Thai ladies of negotiable virtue in the OP's post. You seem to have added those issues on your own. Could your narrow perception be the result of a fat balding old farang who took your Thai gf away?
