The Patong Police Chief and a famous Patong businessman claim that there is no mafia in Patong.

The comments come, unprompted, after arrest warrants were issued for three suspects last week in connection to the double, execution-style, murders in Sattaphip, near Pattaya on July 29. One of them is well-known local Patong businessman, known as ‘Sia Auan’ aka. 39 year old Panya Yingdang, a bar owner.

Patong Police Chief Col Anothai Jindamanee says, “After we checked Panya’s background, we have found that Panya has had legal action taken against him over five separate cases.

And that building codes are adhered to, electrical powerlines and equipment are regularly serviced and are safe and that drainage/sewer systems are world class...………….and so on!

You couldn't make this stuff up, but they think people are stupid enough to believe it...……….even the cops face looks like he is having second thoughts!

Good to see the police and bar owner are in total agreement. The police are the Mafia and are sure to be part owners of his bar and probably many other bars in Patong. Who are they trying to fool?

It might melt into the background, although the victim's family hope it will still run.

Of course there is no Mafia.

Now, organized crime, well that's another matter.   ?

Police Chief AND High Profile Business . No possible room for conflict of interest here. No, none at all. I am imagine all dealings are squeaky clean and above board. ?

'Bar owner'- that's the understatement of the year! More like 'Town Owner'.

Let’s get this straight...

The former mayor and owner of the Patong TukTuk association, arrested and awaiting trial for corruption, after finding hoards of cash in their house, slips in the bathroom and dies, so all corruption investigations are discontinued.

His son, quoted in the article, Former head of the TukTuk organization, or mafia, as its known, one of the biggest landowners in Patong, who owns nightclubs, bars and TukTuks in Patong, as well as other businesses (Graceland hotel, Keenin building supples???) has stated that Patong has no mafia.

I believe him!

Whose company is behind the alternate water lines now buried underground and servicing many Patong businesses and condos, bypassing the municipal water supply. They call this the Mafia water.

But, of course... there is no mafia?

The party line around the world. No such thing as the Mafia.

No, free.

Of course not,The local police doesn't want anybody honing in on their trade.

I tend to agree with the headline.
It is common knowledge that that organisation originates in Sicily, Italy.

With neighboring tourist destinations, like Danang in Vietnam, building one of the biggest and best cable cars in world, and the Chinese building casinos in Sihanoukville in Cambodia, to turn it into the Las Vegas of South East Asia for Chinese gamblers, the best these guys can do is make a press release saying they is no mafia here.

Well done guys.

You couldn't hold back Phuket more if you tried.

These guys keep Phuket stuck in its old corrupt and colluding ways, and have presided over a massive western tourist market decline here.

Phuket can no longer compete with other holiday destinations in the region due to the past, and continuing damage, these guys have done to the tourism industry here.

...and here is our daily brain-teaser challenge which news is true?

"no mafia in Patong" or " no catholics in the Vatican"

I tend to the second one.
