The drive of a car was killed and his female passenger severely injured when his vehicle fell into the ditch in the middle of a highway in Ayutthaya and hit a tree.

The Muang Ayutthaya police station was alerted of the accident at 10pm Wednesday on the Bangkok-bound Asia Highway in Tambon Hantra of Ayutthaya's Muang district.

The driver was identified as Panaithat Nutalai, 29, and his passenger as Sornsuda Klongsombat, 25.

The impact of the crash caused Panithat's right leg to be torn off and hurled into the tree, where it became wedged on a branch. His right arm was also almost torn off.

The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital.

A witness, Supachai Chaobanfang, 45, who was travelling behind the car, said he saw the vehicle gather speed as it crossed from the middle lane to the right lane. Blocked by a truck ahead, the car crashed into the barrier then tumbled into the ditch before hitting the tree.

The bad car trend continues...

Nice map diagram but it fails to show where trip to ditch took place. Why bother with the detailed map?

Not if there is an alley of trees on both sides.

There is an article in Thairath with a photo of a pile of metal and glass wrapped around the tree and building a "pyramid". Hard to identify as a car.

The tree has been "scratched".

That the woman survived looks like a miracle from that.

Not for everyone else though when she "gets  back out  there" pray for a  bigger  tree "next time"

Tambon Hantra is in the east of Ayutthaya city and the accident took place somewhere on highway 32 (red colored in the attachment). Due to Thairath it was at km 23.6, the northern end of the colored stretch.

HW 32 is a 6 lane (3/3) divided highway. A typical "race track". Don't even try to stick to the allowed speed on the right lane. Every other week there is a report about a serious accident on HW32.
