It's not age- it's the fact Thailand itself has becoming somewhat boring compared to my many visits over decades and then living permanently here.

 

Even the girls are boring- whether speaking English or Thai- they have no depth.  Almost impossible to carry on a real conversation- either looking at their phones; figuring out how to get you to buy them a drink or how to get a hand in your pocket. It's all become commercialized and while the goal was always to make money- the bars and ladies always had a real smile and offered a good time. Mostly now it's all fake and the acting is bad.

 

The traffic has also made Thailand a boring place. There are only so many places one can go in a day and the roads are dangerous.  Being stuck in traffic for hours simply takes the fun out of most everything. Using taxis has become an irritant as many refuse to use the meter or are surly.  The buses are filled and the Sky Train packed.  If one wants to go to Pattaya or other places - the beaches and water is dirty and the police may hassle you if riding a cycle or  renting a car. A late night out and one has to run the gauntlet of lady boys, many who enjoy picking pockets.

 

The quality of service has declined and even the Thai smile is missing often times.  The prices have gone up  but with the service going down- most  visitors who have come prior see the difference and the country doesn't have the same good feeling atmosphere.

 

The Western tourists who used to come year after year are giving the country a miss for all of the reasons  above as well as the fact there are more choices; cheaper and friendlier places and these places are doing and giving them what Thailand used to do.

I live 1.5 hrs drive away so I am not pumping for anyone.

I suspect the OP is hoping to be entertained in Pattaya, after all, it's a big city and supposedly a holiday resort. I think he is recognising the shallowness of such places which I have often (but not always) come face to face with if staying put too long. Finding a female who presses all the right buttons should do the trick - can take a trip to the next level. But there's plenty of solo guys hanging around Pattaya, and I've had some great nights after bumping into strangers in bars and hanging out. I'm by no means an extrovert person, but it's fairly easy to find a like minded fellow traveller as long as you're a friendly type of person with decent manners. hang out at the Wonderful bar on second road - there's 2 with the same name - one has a very good band every night, plenty of guys get in there on their own, and it's easy to get chatting to someone. Just go with a positive attitude.

But if you really want the living hell of boredom than just try and survive 1 week in Phitsanulok..   This must rank as the most boring, unfriendly place in Thailand.  Unless that is you have a low IQ and/or get excited watching paint dry. Even the foreigners there appear to mope around like zombies. Then on his return to Pattaya he will have an entirely new outlook.

Even from a  young age 99% of things would be a disappointment but am not sure thats the same as bored?.

Things I can think of which really made an impact would be my first motorbike at aged 18 which I had for 1  year, then saved everything for my next a 750 which was a  great bike but  arrived with a bent back wheel "new" from the dealer who said I must have driven it up a kerb etc............Like I wouldnt have noticed that, sold it after 2  months.

Trips  out to places generally were  not as exciting as Id  hoped and often down right  disappointing.

The usual things were the people there "spoiling " it. These days there seems to be a "loudmouth" everywhere and the world  has now become a narcissistic world especially with the Thais but it is worldwide.

BUT, occasionally I will hear a piece of  music and it gives me a real thrill and ill listen to it all night and day repeatedly, thats probably the biggest thrill I ever get.

I can watch 100 movies and only 1  will actually be worth remembering 99% dross, last one I liked  was  Ex Machina.

I spend a lot of time gardening I mean " a lot" Ive got 15 rai but I do find most things totally boring, never been to a bar anywhere not interested in seeing the world as that which ive seen has been not worth it and with the advent of mass tourism its now even worse. I live in the sticks with no neighbours under a rock with a  tin foil hat on hahahahaha

Wife lives in BKK we meet  up every few  weeks and we both like it that way.

My mind is always wandering, spent most of my life working alone, I guess my best friend is me whom Ill talk to all day.........Im probably mad...............but then many guess  that already 

See, I would not necessarily consider that being bored...  being bored is the state in which you start focusing on that fact because you need external stimulation to change that state.  Meditation itself is not boring (if you are able to get into that state) because you have cleared your mind and therefore have no "want" which is part of the state of being bored.  (IMHO).   Being considered boring is different than being bored ?.  I find nothing more boring than sitting around on a bar stool talking about things that really have no interest to me ...

If I were to go up North, I would probably go to Lake Phayao.....most of the Chinese up there are buried at the cemetery, which happens to be a stones through to a few good houses of ill-repute..complete with 300 and 500 THB ST.  Great food, too.

i think your dead right there and to be honest when that happens to me i can think of a few other place id rather live other than Thailand, but i would need to have a warm climate.

Funny, thats the description I would call someone sitting on a bar stool in Pattaya for 6 months , boring.

 

Climbing the mountains in CM and CR , move your body and feel the fresh air I find more exiting. Plenty of outdoor activities and that's not boring at all. But everything becomes boring if you do it enough times.
