A cassava farmer suffered a burglary at his house after he went into the monkhood in July.

Phra Jakra U-Thong, 34, had ordained for Buddhist Lent.

Thieves entered his house on Friday while his wife, children and their grandmother were all out. He was at the temple.

A safe containing 500,000 baht, a bag containing 200,000 baht for a krathin merit making ceremony and 25 baht of weight of gold were all taken after a door was smashed in.

With other bank investments the haul was worth 2.5 million baht.

The monk said he had just harvested 200 rai of his and other people's land and hadn't had time to put the resulting money in a safer place before he ordained.

Police are studying CCTV to get a lead in the case, reported Sanook.

How convenient....and nicely organised alibi.  My hat is off....and a golf clap, for the nonviolent windfall.

Relative or Neighbour; someone who knew it was there, Sherlock not needed but will baffle the local twits with uniforms.

Hope he considers this as personal lessons of the First Noble Truth: "All life is suffering" and #2 "Suffering comes from attachment"

I wonder if he came home and exclaimed "Ohh my Buddha"

 2 souls/1 mind….:wai:

Money stashed at home instead of the bank always smacks of something fishy going on !!!

A Thai taught me that so no bashing please !

He got what he deserved. Keeping that much money and valuables at home is just simply stupid.
He can be lucky that no one was at home when the thieves entered the house.

Otherwise, his story would have been nonsense or more likely, non-existant!

I feel sorry for this family, and people like CLW who do not understand that many, many

families keep money at home, will never understand Asia.

Geezer

The way I read the article is that at least some of the money was other peoples money. Feel sorry for them.
