Car advice please

Featured Replies

Hi expats and forum readers,

I am looking for some advice about my car.... to cut to the chase I need new brake pads and possibly my disks 'skimmed' or whatever its called... basically I wore down my brake pads until death. Before anyone gives me crap about how dangerous that is.... I have not been in a financial position to get them fixed.

Currently my car is off the road, so don't panic!

I just need to know where I can take my car which is a Honda City (2013) to get sorted. I want a trustworthy place but don't need the expense of a dealship.

Can anyone recommend a suitable mechanic or garage where they have had work done that was not too harsh on the pocket? Can anyone give me a realistic price of what I should expect to pay.

I also need an oil change. Any ideas on what that would cost?

I live in the city near CM gate....

Any advice will be highly appreciated

I would also like any recommendations on insurance companies as mine has run out. I paid 18k last year for class 1.  Does anyone know if you can pay monthly rather than yearly. Who has got good insurance and has positive experiences?

Thanks

Don't most tire shops offer brake service?  That's where i would try first, and of course those shops are very common in town as every car/truck needs tires.

B-Quik do all that..Google B-Quik promotions, on the page you will find the cost of pads for your ride, they do "on car" skimming too...

ProAuto is about the best & most conscientious you will find...

Pricing is honest & fair....

Modern shop & equipment with good technicians....

Ton speaks excellent English....We service 3 cars there & the service is outstanding...

I have horror stories about the chain store suggested earlier....

On the 108 not far from Macro....

Plus a great place to grab a great burger just across the street behind the gym - Wild Hog Saloon.....

Check out the good comments on the TVF thread about them or their FB page....You won't find better....

I'd go to Honda - things like brake pads are surprisingly cheap and they'll do it right first time.

Sorry - should have also mentioned...Once known with them they will pick up & deliver/roadside calls within a 9k radius @ no additional cost (also drop you off).....If you have a Line or Messenger app & leave the vehicle they will report to you including pics of work/needs + of course have any discarded/changed out parts held for your review.....

I'm retired from automotive industry management (Toyota/Lexus/BMW/Dodge) & it's a pleasure to deal with these people.....

I waded through a lot of substandard service shops here (including 1 Honda & 1 Mits dealership) until I finally found ProAuto....

Another Pro Auto fan boy here. Recommended him to others, everyone happy with work and price.

Do you mean have your rotors turned? B-Quick and Pro Auto will be comparable for a job like yours. Brakes and oil change isn't hard work. Get a quote from both and see who is cheaper.

Last month at Pro Auto.

Front brakes changed,skimmed all around.

Wheels/tyres  rotated, balanced re aligned etc.

Oil and filters changed. New bulb fitted rear brake light.

Free coffee and Internet if required.

Total 3,600 baht.

Pro Auto.........the owner speaks perfect English and can explain/understand any concerns you may have.  To me, that alone is priceless.

A very good Honda mechanic is located on the narrow little soi across from the soi that goes to the Dara Dhevi Hotel. There is a sign just as you turn into the soi. He used to work at a Honda dealer. Very reasonable prices and will not try and sell or replace anything that is not 100% necessary, but very busy small shop so you may have to go and make an appointment for 3-4 days in advance. He does not speak a word of English. Only uses Japanese Honda synthetic oils.

But you can get brakes done everywhere...
