PATTAYA:--Pattaya plans to restore a 79-year-old Artesian well found in a Naklua neighborhood.

Chairman Anan Angkanawisai and other city council members visited the site of the well on Soi Thammada in Moo 3 village Sept. 13 to find it still worked, but was in disrepair. A proposal was made to restore the well so that it both can continue to serve the community and be a historical highlight for Naklua.

Srisuda Rachniyom, 60, said the well was built by the government because Naklua had few people and no running water at that time. Located about 50 meters from the road behind Chonglom Temple, the well still works and is used by the community.

The well itself is concrete and about 1.5 meters wide, with four wooden posts attached to lower the water bucket. But the posts are dilapidated and the property surrounding the well is overgrown.

Pattaya hopes to spend some money to restore the land and replace the pulley system to make it more useful and a historical attraction.

Surely there's enough water running freely across Pattaya?
