Military Service for Thai who live in another country

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was born in Thailand and I'm now living in Europe for almost 4 years and I also have a European passport. I'm also studying here.

I'm turning 18 in 1,5 years so I was wondering how do I avoid the military service? Because I can't write nor read Thai anymore speaking is also hard now.

I believe I'm registered in the Tabian Baan. I do want to visit my family in Thailand from time to time.

Do I need to wait until the day I turn 30? or If I enter Thailand should I use my EU passport instead?

You say you have been in Europe 4 years so since you were 14.   You living there with your family or just one parent ?.  If the patere can you not ask your Mother or Father whether or not you are still in the Tabian Baan ?  If not no worries just come and go on your European passport.  But, do you  have a Thai or European surname ? But in any event you are not 20 yet so you have a while to wait yet until before any papers are sent to your Thai registered address ( should you be registered there ) so why worry about it now ?

You can apply for a waiver from being called for the draft at a Thai embassy. You don't not really have to worry about it until the year you turn 21.

Info for the waiver in Thai is here on the Berlin embassy website. http://thai.thaiembassy.de/beglaubigung-usw

If Pheu Thai party wins the election, they claim they will abolish conscription!

Is there a similar link in the Thai UK embassy website. I looked could not find it. Or an English Version?

Edit to realise it is for a waiver of doing the papers at 18 and delaying the selection not for exemption. My mistake sorry
