Three people were killed and four others, all members of the same Buri Ram family, were injured when a pickup truck crashed into a ditch in the middle of a Rayong road and hit a tree.

Police said the accident happened at 3am on highway No 344 in Moo 5 village in Tambon Payub Nai in Rayong's Wang Chan district.

The driver, Chitnupong Lunpila, 22, was killed. His uncle, Apisit Kitisakon, 52, and his aunt, Somjit Wanna, 61, were also killed.

Four other passengers were seriously injured.

All seven lived in the same house in Buri Ram's Putthaisong district.

They were travelling home after visiting a family member, who is working as a nurse in Rayong's Klaeng district.

The survivors said they did not know how the accident happened as they were all asleep.

Police suspect the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.

But it could not have been the Thai drivers fault as he was presumed to be asleep at the time !!

No, it was the trees fault.

7 in a pickup, so how many were riding in the back of it....

And how many of the seven were sleeping in the back of the pickup; seven inside would have been a bit cramped.

You beat me to it by 3 seconds!  I wonder if the aunt and uncle were in the back.
