Australian man shoots self in head at Phuket shooting range

Featured Replies

We all come here at different times in our lives, looking for something, or escaping from something or someone, or somewhere.

I think collectively we all need some support from others at times in our lives.

Sadly he took his own life before finding his salvation.

Indeed, quite sad. At 24, he had his whole life ahead of him. Depression is an awful condition which plagues some of my family members. I often don't fully understand it and can only sympathize because I have never been wired that way. When encountering difficult times, I look to it as a challenge and work harder; work through the issues, people with depression don't even view that as an option and feel utterly hopeless in despair.

FYI, the gun range isn't the issue. He easily could have walked out in front of a lorry.

I would say this though, the range master should have noticed he boy acting erratically, taking off his shirt and stretching, not normal behavior at a gun range.

Wouldn’t want to see the 2 minutes that’s missing. The person working there must be devastated. The range needs to do something to try and minimize any situations like this.

horrible such a young man.

All the other people at the range with guns.

Why did they cut out 2 minutes in the VDO?

Because it might be used as evidence and you don't need to see it !!

All the other people at the range with guns.

Just saying that this policy of allowing random tourists or locals to wander into a shooting range isn’t good. People should have to go through some sort of evaluation first, members only.

It's not the first time in this shithole. Just look at the state of the place.

We were at Patong a couple of weeks ago.

My seven year old nephew was allowed to use a target pistol on the main street.

Nearly shot the girl attendant twice.

There is never a good reason to do this. Ever.

I meant in his mind, there was obviously a justified reason.
I do believe that if someone is suffering a terminal illness, or their life is so utterly tormenting due to an illness or debilitation, they should have every right to kill themselves. There are things like terrible break ups, or financial loss, that are fleeting moments in ones life, and should be given time to change. But there are circumstances that I feel taking your own life is perfectly understandable

He is not dead yet.

I was just about to ask whether he had died as this was in the initial report...……."Col Bandasak declined to confirm or deny whether the man was still alive".

lemonjelly, You haven’t got a clue as to what you are talking about.

Its one thing people can get that far to kill themselfs ,and i will never understand why neither will anyone who's not in that situation. But if you do it , jump from a cliff into the sea or in whatever way you can do it without getting innocent bystanders involved . You are the one with the problem what you think your doing to other people . If doing it in front of them . But i geuss people killing themselfs are not thinking about what they are doing to the people they leave behind . In my mind killing yourself is the most selfish thing you can do . Sorry if i offended anyone

I understand what you're trying to say in your post, and perhaps the best thing I can point to is that you have thought through what could be construed as a pattern of logical behaviour with regards to this and other suicides.

But therein lies the problem, because people who are in a depressed state or who are suicidal do not have the same logical/rational thoughts as you speak about because their minds are not working as they should, which is why the "Black dog" or depression is very often so hard to treat.

In fact some people fight it all of their lives and some never really overcome it, and IMO it must be a very difficult and stressful existence.

So in effect what you are comparing is a logical thought process with one which is certainly not logical and works in entirely different fashion, so thoughts/feelings/behaviours/moods in these people are nowhere near what you consider them to be, therefore selfishness does not come into it at all because it doesn't enter the dark places in a depressed mind.

I just really dont get this. People that can afford to travel have better lives than many and should be able to appreciate life for what it is. I suffered a little depression in the young years and have known others suffering but its just not australian to do such a thing in my mind. Its cowardly. What im more interested in is where is the missing footage?

You claim it is just not Australian, well unamazedloso you do not know Australia. If you knew what you were talking about then you would know that Australia has a very high suicide rate from severe depression and anxiety especially with military veterans and they are not cowards. You just do not understand what some people go through. Don't ever brand people as cowards when you do not know what you are talking about. Some of these people are a lot braver than what you will ever be, you do not know what they have endured in their lives.

Good point as the whole article is based on that he did it himself where the video should support it - which it doesn't....

Could also be interesting to know what he quickly touched inside the plastic bag and then seems to sniff from his hands in the very beginning of the clip - was it just a sort of compulsion act based on anxiety etc or was it a substance of any kind...??....

This Question only blame yourself.

Well at least he had the brains to take himself out of the gene pool before he had kids! Depression is the "black dog" and many many young men are taking this road in Oz! RIP

Nothing...Stay Tuned...Future News!

A possible foul play or negligence? Anyway, I am not convinced due to the fact that this video clip had been edited.
