Left without picking up re-entry permit

AFAIK and assuming you mean "extension based on retirement" The minute you left your extension was dead ! Without a re-entry permit that is now spent and you have to start all over again.

(Hope for your sake I'm wrong)

You should always get the "re-entry" when the "Extension based on retirement" is issued and that avoids any issues when and if you want to travel.

You will have to get a non-o visa and start the process again it is the same for a renewal except for the part of getting a non-o.. In some cases it is easier to go to Laos for  non-o you will need to show proof

of income or 800,000 in bank.

You will have to start from a non O again, but I believe you can enter on a tourist visa and convert to non O in Thailand. The information is on the TV website, or you can ask in the visa subforum.

Like what  the others have said, you have definitely lost your retirement visa and need to apply again.

Can you think of anything else he might have meant?  Share, please.

OP, what was your point of exit?  Sometimes I travel with older people who are repatriating out of Chiang Mai and always the immigration officer asks about the absence of a re-entry permit and I have to explain that the person doesn't plan to return to Thailand.  Sometimes this has caused a scene and we've had to go and buy one at the counter at the airport because the person I'm traveling with insists he's returning to Thailand in the very near future.  (Sometimes I think the Immigration officers are jerking my chain because they know what I'm doing, i.e. serving as an "escort service"!)

Yes, an O-A Retirement visa obtained in the home country. An entirely different thing and different requirements. (AFAIK)

Oh, good point.  If the OP really has an O-A retirement visa then no problems.
