Pattaya steps up marine safety efforts during monsoon

PATTAYA:--Pattaya has stepped up security precautions for boat passengers during the monsoon conditions nearing the end of rainy season.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department was ordered to increase inspections during the final weeks of the monsoon season, as the waters between Pattaya and Koh Larn have been whipped up by repeated storms and wind.

Authorities are monitoring boats traveling between the mainland and island via closed-circuit cameras installed at Bali Hai Pier, Koh Larn and on passenger boats.

They also are working with private groups and boats to respond to accidents or passenger emergencies.

Officers are patrolling the entire length of Pattaya Beach to ensure passengers are wearing life jackets, schedules are followed, and those engaged in water sports also are safe.
