not really, you've been to tao as you say so would have seen for yourself how people behave when there are lax laws, no limits to alcohol, add to that what you can find in pharmacies even 1/500.000 would be remarkable.

There are far more visiting bkk or pattaya, the death rate on death island is very high

Not really. 1 or 2 deaths a year per 100,000 visitors is not high.

I went before the murders ,  only one overpriced 7 11 (we used to use the thai supermarket on left just out of sairee bay as much cheaper ) no where near as many bars and hotels. In fact it was boring listening to divers prattle on.

It was well known even then about the mafia families on the island (3 but only 2 active as i think is the same now)

The police station was a box

The government pumped money into the place and produced death island....

He has left the place now but a friend had a longtail boat there and told me about the mafia etc...

Compared to china not many at all in Luxembourg

Koh tao has had 15 in 6 years and that's not including the canadian lady hit by drunk longtail driver, chinese man drowned, latest death which by the way went very quiet quickly not to mention the thais and burmese that have died in this time.o

Have you even been to death island? do you know how tiny it is?

Phi Phi is small too. Thai mafia are everywhere. You would have to avoid the whole country if worried about crime. Farangs get killed for 50,000 baht or less all over. Often killed by family members.

Usually mafia controlled places means that 'civilians' go unharmed. The mafia is in it for money, killing civilians is bad for business.

When Hells Angels has a clubhouse somewhere that area usually has zero crime.....

You would think so wouldnt you but the thai mafia are no italian gang lol

Mickey mouse mafia

I knew the main family on koh phangan when i lived there, the police were scared of them. There was of course a lot of crime.

Thailand has a gun murder rate as high as USA and its mafia run......

Yeah, another way to look at it is that Italian mafia have some fear for the government and the public. They known if they mess up too much that people will start demanding to get rid of them and the government actually has some competence and can seriously hurt them.. but in Thailand it seems as if they have no fear of the government,, they know that the government is completely corrupt and incompetent so they have nothing to fear.. good point

Foreign embassies need to publish a serious warning to their people to not visit Koh Tao. Thailand has many other beautiful islands. Let's see what the local authorities would do then when the number of tourist arrivals drop drastically and locals who depend on tourism for a living suddenly don't get money. Maybe they will fly to China to tell the chinese to come to Koh Tao.

the guy has been found in Pattaya...never went any further south than that..

unlucky for the few idiots that started straight up blaming tao

But the Dutch guy stupid so too, he don't give any report/message for 4 days, he was removing from Ko Tao.

It might help if you read the news report. You will see that he never went anywhere near Koh Tao, or any other island. Only visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Pattaya, where he was located.

So no 'removing from Ko Tao' or 'moving to another island'.

Jimmy newbie should watch his weight, he's been forced to eat a lot of humble pie lately

An American guys body found on the beach in Koh Lanta today.....not even a peep from anyone here about it...not a peep about the body found in Phuket same day as this guy on Tao either.....yet this thread has thousands of views and 12 pages of comments..just goes to prove the bias against tao!!

To the above: Because when someone drowns in Thailand other than at Koh Tao, then he/she has drowned and nobody is there to suggest that, even though it looks like they drowned, the death was really the result of foul-play.

Its 5 deaths that involve some sort of suspicion, nothing unusual in Thailand.

that depends on what you class as suspicious.

obviously all the cases of "Suicide" are not included.

It includes the couple of suicides that are somewhat suspicious.

Its a place I always wanted to go but not now.  My Thai wife told me never go there and when I asked why she say "because of who own it". Whoever does own it, or who lives there now, surely must be as worried as anybody I would think.
There the ones doing it thats why your thai wife is correct
