Advertising push for public bus - Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Tonight there was a group of folks handing out leaflets at the Sunday Market for the bus system-

High-definition and easy to read, full English and Thai language, complete with timetables and listed stops.

Great to see them advertising this excellent resource!

The buses should be more frequent. Half an hour wait is pretty long.

They should cut down to 10 to 15 minutes max.

I agree and hopefully demand will create supply if more people ride.

I've waited several times now, and from what I've seen they are pretty good about being on time.

Once you've been on one, it's easier to like: that air conditioning and exhaust-free clean air is addictive. Plus you are sitting up high and feeling nice and safe, in a forward position, ability to see out the front, smoother ride  plus lack of fumes trumps the red trucks. 20 baht is the cheapest game in town too.

Presume you all know there is an app you can install on your phone that includes a map and shows (real time) where the busses are and which way they are moving.  Helps knowing when one is about to arrive or may be 15-20 minutes out.  Sorta like the Uber/Grab mapping app.

Yes, the app is brilliant -- way better than the Grab app.  You can wait indoors in comfort while you watch a bus approaching the bus stop near you on the phone, and then go out to the bus stop shortly before it arrives.  The app is does lag real time just a bit, as I learned the first couple times when I missed the bus, but once I figured this out I'm OK now.

Once on the bus, you settle into icy cold aircon and free wifi while you watch the city from a nice high position in comfort.  It makes the wait at the Maya intersection almost pleasant.
