Man charged over boy’s electrocution

Featured Replies

Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged a car garage owner who planted electrified wires around his plot of land without warning signs, leading to a 15-year-old boy to be electrocuted in Sen Sok district. Colonel Hour Mengvang, district police chief, identified the accused as Pa Sothy, 65, living in Toek Thla commune.

He noted that Mr Sothy is charged with attempted murder and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted. He is now in prison pending trial. Col Mengvang said the accused was arrested in his house on Saturday after the victim Phann Phanha, a garment worker living nearby, was electrocuted on the plot of land.

Second Lieutenant Sok Vannak, a commune police officer, said that from October 5 onwards, the accused set up the wires around his plot of land and switched on the electricity at night to deter thieves from entering his property. He noted that Mr Sothy usually switched off the electricity in the morning.

The garage owner was not much of a bright spark. Congratulations to quick thinking neighbors who got the lad to hospital.

Not the brightest thing to do.. electrify the garden!

Would have been more effective to set up security lights the work off sensors or even have a dog in the garden !!
