Police seize more than 50,000 fake-brand goods in Phuket

Police swooped on shops and stalls on the popular Patong Beach area of Phuket on Friday and seized more than 50,000 fake-brand goods.

 

Police, led by acting Immigration Bureau chief Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakpak, searched 28 locations at the beach at about 8.30pm and seized the imitation goods. Some shop owners were also arrested.

 

Surachate said the seized goods included fake Ray-Ban and Oakley sunglasses, fake Prada, Louis Vuitton and Gucci handbags and sport clothes and sneakers imitating Nike, Adidas, Puma and Fila brands.

When i first started coming to Thailand i bought these type of things knowing they where fake because of the low prices as did most of the people i knew that came here for a holiday golf or whatever took their fancy (bar girls) . Most of what i bought outlasted the genuine stuff so am always happy to buy more except for watches and phones .

I bought a knock off Bally wallet in Patpong Bangkok 15 years ago.....have used it everyday ever since….now some of the stiching is starting to fray....if I took it back would they give me a refund ????

I bought a fake Omega DeVille watch in Patong in 2005, knowing the movement was fake although the case seemed genuine, and I thought it was a great looking watch...……..lasted a few years so that was ok BUT I couldn't forget how smart it looked and often thought of buying one duty free on one of my overseas trips.

 

Couldn't get it out of my mind so have just bought a genuine one!!!!!!!

We had something a bit similar discussion in Denmark many years ago, when the public libraries began to borrow out records. The music business of course complained, but actually it was not that bad. I was in the music business, and had the opinion that those borrowing music, are mainly those that would never buy the record, so we would loose only little turover, if any, as we sold some records to the libraries. However, I was wrong, in a positive way. Among other products, I was agent for a classical record label, and when libraries began to buy those records, a few month after the records shop began ordering the same record titles; seemed like folks borred them, liked them, and wished to own the own replicate. The record-titles libraries borrowed out, outnumbered all other titles many-fold in sales.

So records and watches, same-same but different...????

Fake goods raid hits 25 stores in Patong, B42mn in goods seized

PHUKET: A mass raid on 25 shops along Bangla Rd, Patong, last night saw more than 300,000 items seized with a reported value of B42 million, the Royal Thai Police Immigration Bureau.

 

Leading the high-profile raid at 8pm was Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn, Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police Immigration Bureau, and Deputy Commissioner Maj Gen Krissakorn Paleetunyawong.

 

Joining them were Col Panachai Cheunthaitham of the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division, as well as Lt Gen Pongwut Pongsri and Maj Gen Wanchai Ekpornpit, both deputy commanders of Region 8 Police.

Maybe he should be investigating those people who are being paid to turn a blind eye to the stuff being imported/distributed in the first place?

I think the same as you, follow the trail from the street seller, to the distributor, to the importer and then see who is manufacturing.   I suspect that will not happen as the authorities already know that it is a rich Sino-Thai business man in Bangkok who is the importer and a 'cousin' of his, back in China,  who is the manufacturer.

If they are not manufactured in Thailand does no one check when the goods are imported ?

That's only 25 shops ,,,, There are Millions of other shops that sell Fake & Copy shit all over the country,.That alone should keep them busy raiding shops for the next few years doing it 24/7
