Popular Post Rimmer Posted November 2, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 2, 2018 Pattaya police scramble to quell chaotic Terminal 21 traffic PATTAYA:--Pattaya traffic police are scrambling to quash the congestion caused by the opening of the new Terminal 21 shopping mall. The Oct. 19 opening of the new mall on Phettrakul Road at North Road brought traffic Armageddon to North Pattaya, with many of those caught up in the gridlock venting their frustration online. Traffic inspector Pol. Maj. Aruth Sapanon downplayed the opening weekend madness, saying it was just the initial crush of huge crowds there for the first few days. However, he said authorities are taking steps to improve traffic flowing near the new mall by painting curbs as “no parking” zones from the Best Supermarket to the Phettrakul intersection. Jaywalking pedestrians also are to blame, he said, so crosswalks will be repainted and those on foot urged to cross only on them. Finally, orange cones will be placed to sort traffic during rush hour, much as is done near Central Festival Pattaya Beach, another huge mall placed on busy streets with narrow access roads to parking leading to terrible backups on weekends and holidays. The long-term solution to the Terminal 21 traffic mess, Aruth said, would be to completely reopen the Dolphin Roundabout and get the mall itself to do more to control its traffic. -- © Copyright Pattaya Mail 2018-11-02 4 "Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast!" KhunBENQ Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Who finds the thread with the statement from police?: "there will be no traffic chaos from Terminal 21 opening". Unforeseeable

Popular Post zaphod reborn Posted November 2, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 2, 2018 Pattaya City Council was too interested in their kickbacks to require the developer to use its property for cut-out lanes for entry and exit onto North Road, and also to require installation of rain-protected escaltors and an overhead walkway to get pedestrians across this heavily trafficked roadway. Planning is non-existent in Thialand. I worked with a Thai Cambridge-educated Ph.D. who blamed the lack of planning on the fact that the Thai people never had to plan for winters, as food is abundant year-round. 9 4

Regyai Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Let me guess - Ive not had the pleasure of a drive up there personally (thank God), but has any Terminal 21 bound traffic from anywhere north of the roundabout still have to turn left at Dolphin then attempt that crazy little U-turn fighting this oncoming vehicular tsunami? Planning! Its somewhere between Pissed and Puerile in the dictionary lest you want to look City Hall clownsters 1 1

Trying to cross the road from T21 to Best Supermarket should be made easier by fixing the crossing lights. I hope this will be attended to before there is an accident. 1 1

Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted November 2, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 2, 2018 WOW!!! This news in the OP report is a total shocker.... Who would have ever expected that the local municipality, the police and the mall's developer would have collectively failed to take adequate infrastructure measures to prevent traffic gridlock upon opening. 1 2
thaibear Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 The horse bolted long ago at the initial planning stages, if there was any.................... Now the knee jerking from RTP with ineffective solutions that will be implemented but never enforced commence. As the old adage goes 'By failing to plan/prepare you are planning/preparing to fail'
Popular Post Emster23 Posted November 2, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 2, 2018 I assume this joint was "EIA approved" like so many building sites boast. I reckon "impact" doesn't include silly items like traffic all balled up. "And the envelope please....." 1 2

(I don't live in Pattaya) Is there some worry the better class of sewage might be mixing with lower class sewage? As the bog standard stuff seems to run straight into the sea, perhaps the T21 quality effluent is being discharged into a high class private beach. I'm sure the developers must have done their homework on this - no details overlooked. 1 2
