Eric Loh
Think Don saying foreign observers not really necessary since elected governments are no match for coups. They seldom last the full term anyway. Waste of time for foreign observers to come.

Was there an irregularity with the General Election that voted in Prayut as the Prime Minister as well as the all ministers of the National Legislative Assembly? Was there a problem with the February 2014 General Election that saw the Constitutional Court invalidate the election results, the third election that had been voided by the Constitutional Court since its creation? Since at least back to 2010 there have been national election "problems" in Thailand that merits foreign monitoring. I hope the EU makes an issue of election monitoring as it has with Cambodia.

Self explanatory. International election observers in United States to hold press conference on Wednesday The International Election Observation Mission comprises a total of some 140 observers from 35 countries, including 84 parliamentarians and staff from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and 55 long-term observers and election experts deployed by Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights . https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/18/us/politics/donald-trump-jr-secret-service.html I'm sure you can research for more examples. I'm also sure that Prayut would object to the same observers as they would lack "Thainess." 2

HalfLight
The Thai junta does not understand the difference between 'do not need' and 'do not want for reasons they'd rather not talk about'. At least they say one when they mean another but fear it may not be accepted. So why take the risk by telling the truth when you can tell a lie - right? This is Thailand after all, and these are Thais.

Must compare apples with apples and not apples with oranges. Comparing Thailand with Cambodia and Laos is probably more sensible than comparing it with Germany and France.
