I have a iMac and a MBP both running High Sierra.  Using Sys Prefs I have entered duckduckgo as startup pages when I launch Safari as well as my search engine.  The iMac has no problem going to that site however the MBP says it cannot lodge the page because it can't reach duckduckgo.  So I downloaded Firefox and I get the same results on the iMac and MBP.

I checked that the security settings and they are the same on both machines.  I'm at a loss as how to solve this.  I have an intense dislike of using google for many reasons.

Anyone know a solution? TIA

You can use google IF you want to engage the learning curve needed to use https://search.disconnect.me/

Try opera (If it is available for Mac) and engage VPN (I use Linux ONLY and opera is free as is the VPN) this "may" indicate if it has been blocked.

These are probably workarounds rather than outright solutions...
