As said in original post before he admitted lying, aussies always struggle outside their own country

Do they?

Pray tell.

Tho' I must concede that they were seen as lousy tippers in the 'States..which was probably because they believed (erroneously) that the waiting staff were paid a living wage..

Lets' just say if I did nothing for then next 43 years I could survive a very comfortable life here in Thailand.

That said, I won't toss you, not a gambling man, although do invest heavily in the ASX which makes the tax free returns here worth living here.

Good luck to you, 5 is better than 4, but I like to keep my feet on the ground, to remind me where I came from as opposed to beating my chest.....lol

Well you wouldnt need much to live for 43 years if you only carry 1000 baht on you.

How do fill up your car? Buy a shout?

Your third sentence seems to contradict your first sentence.

I don't deny the highly taxed statement, and there are many struggling to survive on the scraps thrown to them by the pollies and their masters, but on several  indicators Australia is one of the richest countries of all time.

Australia is the second-wealthiest nation in terms of wealth per adult, after Switzerland,  in 2018 it overtook Switzerland and it became the country with the largest median wealth per adult.

More here:  https://evatt.org.au/news/australia-wealthy-country.html

Incidentally, I'm another living on my own resources without applying for the OAP.

OAP gets cut off living here right?

Very " Kerry Packer " of you ...

He famously made that offer to a Texan Oil Millionaire in a London Casino .

Yep, and the big noting Texan backed down. I got a similar answer. Easy to call out these types.

You speak funny for an Aussie.

Anyway, I said from the start i didnt believe him. Just disagreed with your assumption that Aussies dont ever carry more than 10,000 baht.

So?

The Australian stats are against a few opiniated posters here-but hey that's Thailand.

So close to Shangri-La,so far from God..

To pinch a line from Porfirio Diaz.

Wrong. The pension supplements are removed ( electricity and phone ) which is fair enough because we are not using them. That reduces the OAP by about 10%.

It all depends how much you have in reserves and how you play the market, and I am not going to give away what works for me, suffice to say, if you buy and sell daily and only buy dividend paying shares in there if the market goes south, then you won't really lose, although you might have to wait for the shares that dropped to pick up again, i.e. a year or two, in the meantime receive between 5%-6% tax free for your troubles while waiting ????

Each to their own of course

How long do you think you will have to wait for your AMP and Telstra shares to make a comeback?

It makes sense now, why you dont have any pocket money.

Fortunately, for all of us, this type of event is rare here. I just do not hear about alot of violent crimes against foreigners, like in many other countries, such as the PI, and Cambodia. Hopefully, it will stay that way.

Hope they catch the goons who did this. And hope they are able to find a judge willing to lock them up. Not an easy thing to find.

Did you not read the post it said he made it up he was drunk and lost his wallet, he was not wrobbed

Drunken Aussie tourist admits he wasn’t robbed at gun point in Phuket

Silly boy.  Once sober, he'll find he's earned himself something like 10 years in jail and/or a 1,000,000 THB fine.  It's probably less fines and jail time to commit armed robbery for real.  He should have stuck to his story.  Sucks to be him now methinks.

Yet another strike against Thai tourism

As soon as I started reading this and by the cut of him my BS alarm was sounding...

My only surprise in reading the thread is the anti Brit brigade has not mentioned its 'always Brits & Aussies blah blah blah'

Just a young man doing what young men do - making a complete knob of himself

His family emigrated from England when he was baby.

An real Aussie wouldn't do this.

Welease Wodewick!

Once back in Australia, the poor chap should widely post the serious incident in all australian social media, to warn his people on what Thailand is becomming.

When tourism and retirees numbers drastically drop, then perhaps some steps may be taken to treat visitors with a minimum of respect and decency in Thailand.

Either you need to keep up, or that is one of the most sarcastic posts on TV I've ever read.

He was the only goon in this saga. I hope they fine him heavily for wasting police time.

And it could have been an English or American or Italian dork.  We have all got plenty of them and many seem to make their way to the Kingdom.

But I was right...………..!!

Going home on a bong and a prayer..

Nothing like a good ol' Aussie cone to fry your brains at a young age.

Perhaps he can join the fat female from Canada and the male dope from England for a last grovel.
