Easiest/cheapest border run from Phuket

Featured Replies

Hello,

My apologies if this has been posted already. I was just wondering if someone could tell me the cheapest and/or easiest visa-run from Phuket?

I think I would prefer to do it myself by bus, rather than with a company who does it in a small van. I had planned one with them for 1900 baht, but I can see now that buses are about 250 baht. I believe there is another bus and a ferry in addition?

There is lots of conflicting information online.

Any help would be super appreciated ????

Thank you

easiest; jump on any flight taking you out of Thailand

cheapest; my guess would be; bus from Phuket Town to Ranong then boat to Burma and back

Correct - but only for 30 day stamp. And you can't do that more than 4 times.

Provincial bus up to Ranong, then either cross from the dock in town or get up to the dock that goes across to the Casino. To be honest its a lot less hassle if you take a minibus.

yes,

but if you want cheap cheap you go by longtail from the piers close to the fish market in Ranong

hence the 'cross from the dock in town' comment.

Done the longtail just the once in my early days here. Never again. Only for the adventurous. The Casino boat thereafter.

There is a new law proposed, but atm still maximum 2 times per calendar year.

Many years ago i did HKT-KL and return on the same flight, easy and no hassle, i would NEVER do the visa run in mini bus, even if they pay me to do it.......

Don't know why we forum members bother. The OP never logged back on since he posted 19 hours ago. Guess he is not in a hurry.

Of course I wasn't, I'm not doing my border run for another month yet, I just like to know these things in advance ????

Same here. Many years ago I did a visa run from Bangkok to Vientiane in a minibus. I've not been in one since.

I did a visa run from Phuket in January and went to Ranong then got a longtail boat to Myanmar and back. We hired a car and made a weekend of it. I personally enjoyed the longtail boat ride. It was fun. The drive up to Ranong was also decent. There are threads on this forum about getting the boat over to Myanmar, so do some searching. The info on this forum certainly helped me.

Obviously it costs more to rent a car, but if you do I would recommend Avis. Today I returned from a trip to Ao Nang and used Avis for the third time in a year, with no problems.
