Three Hmong men from Tak were arrested in Chiang Rai on Friday night while allegedly attempting to smuggle 300 kilogrammes of crystal meth and 70 kilogrammes of heroin from Myanmar into the kingdom.

The arrest was made by Army troops from the Pha Muang Taskforce with cooperation from Chiang Rai's Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB).

Lt Phisit Apidet, commander of the Third Cavalry Company of Pha Muang Taskforce, said the three were arrested at 8.30pm at a checkpoint on a road near the 2nd Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in San Phak Hee village in Tambon Mae Sai in Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district.

ONCB officials found the drugs after they received a tip-off that a pickup truck would be used to smuggle drugs from Myanmar into Thailand.

The three suspects were identified as Surapong Khirirat, 38, Worawet Khiriratsakul, 35 and Sitthiporn Saewang, 24. All are Hmong people from Tak.

Surapong told police that he was promised Bt1.5 million by a Chinese man in Thakilek province in Myanmar to deliver the drugs to a recipient in a central province.

Netflix really needs to make a Narcos series based on the cartels and drug traffic coming out of Myanmar.  With the amount of this 'loss', somebody gonna get 'whacked.'  I can see it now: Narcos Myanmar!

For all we know this could of been a smoke screen while a ton of each went on down the road.

Either this was a decoy shipment or someone forgot to pay the tea money.

That is a lot of drugs, man. Someone is gonna go away for life.
