Under the expected new rules the embassy letter is not mandatory. Transfering 40k baht or 65k baht into a Thai bank will also be accepted instead of one.

Under the expected new rules the embassy letter is not mandatory.......

So "expected" is the operative word, otherwise at the moment the Embassy letter is still needed????

I don't have a VISA that requires any money in any bank, but I have sympathy for those that do.

The guys that want to jugde what other people should have to live here are real nasty bits of work.

Let's hope the Thais don't start deporting guys for being rude.

There would no Brits left then maybe because that ????,

Second I was just putting some extra on his scaremongering list as I found it too much bad expecting s could happen , a little trust in Thai government is in need , never had any problem with them , just follow the (sometimes stupid ) rules .

I must get my first ticket from police until now in 10 years …..ssssttttsstt don't tell them ????

I keep hearing the ฿800K will be going up to ฿ 1 Million. Not sure if there will be a change for those that are married to a Thai.

From where?

You would expect the monthly income to go up to around 82,000 baht too then.

that would not surprise me , as it is already 10 years 800 k I thought ...., maybe same % up as the 800 K or grandfathered if using it continuous .

Thailand is "taking control of his borders & laws "    seems …… ! Sound familiar ….????

I planned living in the UK with my English wife until I died.

There may be many people who think it's a great idea to stick 20,000GBP ($25,000) in a 3rd world bank, but I ain't one of them.

10 Years back I didn't need any money for a 1 year Thai VISA, I just needed the 120GBP for an 'over 50s' VISA

This year you need 800k in a Thai bank

What about next year, when they decide you need 2M baht in the bank? and a 200,000bht health insurance policy?

And the year after when they want 5M baht?

They are not begging you to stay. Just offering an option. You can do something similar in the Philippines. Enjoy. You are a victim of your own visa abuse. Ironic no?

absolutely correct !

all i can say is you live in a perfect world....life does not always go the way you plan... and the other man said he did not plan his divorce...some people get sick...shame on both of you for thinking that all people were lucky like you.....i dont have a problem but to say shame on those who do is just your no understanding arrogance...more than not i would have to say people come here because they do not have the money to live well in there own country.and they have all wrong for thailand... should be 40 for single and 65 for married..you take on a thai wife you will need more than 40 more than likely.....

OP I have read your post few times. Not sure your exact situation. You O-A has life span of about 2 yrs. Sounds like your moving to non o based on retirement. If that's the case, I would stick 800k in Thai bank and skip income or combo method. Just makes it very simple until the details of future proof of income is settled. Keep in mind as soon as you extend for 12 months you can live in Los using the 800k and then top up prior to next extension. Just a suggestion.

I'm on a one year extension off an OA visa.  I missed the opportunity of getting an income affividavit from the U.S. Embassy.

So, I actually opened a Thai bank account this month, and transferred the required 65K into it, then will do the same thing monthly from now on.

My one year extension expires in March, so instead of showing up at the immigration office with no income affidavit and with a Thai bank statement with only 2 deposits, and get denied a one year extension...

I decided to be on the safe side and see what a visa service can do, to guarantee either an extension or some type of visa.

So, when that one visa service said they can get me a one year extension, with just one deposit of 65K in a Thai Bank, "I thought" if they can get me a one year extension, I should be able to get my own.

I brought up the 800K question based off reading the issues or problems some people have talked about being required to have that amount tied up in a Thai bank. But, that seems like the best option if someone does not have a monthly income to cover the required amount.

Anyway, my 90 day report is in February, I will ask, the always friendly IO, what she will accept as proof of income.

** Note:  Although, from what I know, there is nothing in writing about depositing 65K or what ever amount, into a Thai bank, it's just a rumor.  Is like the rumor of no more income affidavits being issued or accepted.
