Krabi's livestock development officials arrested a man and a woman after they found 1,780kg of beef that they said had been smuggled from overseas without proper documents.

Pornpiwal Munsa-ard was arrested after the officials checked her cold storage room in Krabi's Nua Klong district and found 1,720kg of buffalo beef.

Prasert Duranae was arrested after the officials checked his house in the same district and found 60kg of beef.

The two said they bought the beef from India and Malaysia but they failed to provide beef import permits to the authorities.

The two were charged with violations of the animal disease control act for importing animal carcasses without official permission.

Supposedly, there has been a huge shortfall of buffalo beef in Thailand over the past 20 years, as more and more buffalo upcountry suddenly 'got sick'... ????

Wonder, for whom all that buffalo beef was imported; the large Chinese hordes tour groups? I heard there is still a couple tons chicken feet, dating back to the 1970s, circling around between Vietnam and China (some of which found their way into Chinese supermarket chains only 3 or 4 years ago). Perhaps some entrepreneurial Thai importers could take advantage... ????

I know a few laughs about this but uncontrolled meat imports of any kind are simply very dangerous for us all

On its way to Taco Bell?

Ah Bisto even though the refrigeration looks iffy ????

Looks like the authorities have "beefed-up" their investigations.

And all or most of its probably soon to be re-sold on the black market....  Nice little earner.....

Or, perhaps like drugs... they'll end up "burning" it, as in, on their BBQs.... :partytime2:

Alice's Restaurant Thai-Style

"He said, "What were you arrested for, kid?"
And I said, "Smuggling Beef." And they all moved away from me on the bench
there, and the hairy eyeball and all kinds of mean nasty things, till I
said, "And creating a nuisance." And they all came back, shook my hand,
and we had a great time on the bench, talkin about crime, mother stabbing,
father raping, all kinds of groovy things that we was talking about on the
bench.
