Surge protector that can handle 1,200W continuous?

Featured Replies

Plugged in a portable AC and the power strip lasted only 10 minutes. I guess I need something more heavy duty. Anyone know where to get a surge protector capable of 1,200W continous load?

"Surge protection" (MOV) would not fail because of AC.  Maybe a 10a fuse?  Just plug in to normal socket and don't worry about surge.

Well I just bought a 4,000 watt surge protector off Aliexpress. Let's hope it acts as a buffer for the socket in case it draws too much current for the wiring.

OK - so that would hopefully protect equipment from transient high (like really high) voltage.  It will have zero affect on current - that's what the circuit breakers are for.

Edit:  Actually, watts has nothing to do with surge suppression.  Maybe it has a 15 amp fuse in it?

You just need a decent power strip, for things with motors and compressors a surge protector won't do much, the AC won't care.

These Chinese power strips hardly stay together without any load.

get something rated for 10A or so and look for "Not Made In China" logos.

Something like this maybe:
