A 47-year-old Chinese man was arrested at Chiang Rai's Mae Fah Luang Airport on Wednesday with 1kg of powdered ketamine, which he had allegedly smuggled from the area near Kings Romans Casino in Laos that is part of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone. He was allegedly intending to fly on to Hanoi with the package.

Suspect Wen Teng Hua (not the official spelling) was arrested at 12.30am after Mae Sai Customs officials scanned his luggage to find the drugs disguised as tea.

The suspect, who entered Thailand on February 19 before visiting Laos, reportedly told police that he brought the ketamine from Ton Pheung in Laos. He allegedly said he brought it back to Chiang Rai to fly to the Vietnamese capital via Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport.
