Residents in Chiang Mai were mystified that their plotted plants kept disappearing over the last few months.

Then on February 18th they found out who was responsible - an old man arrived in the dead of night and pinched one from outside the Khun Tim restaurant in the Mae Jo - Mae Rim area.

He put it on the back seat of his Toyota Vios and drove off.

Then on Monday the same man came back at 6 am for more. This time the son of the owner of the restaurant made a citizen's arrest and called the cops.

Police took Poo Hui Jin, a 63 year old Chinese man, into custody.

At his five million baht 100 wah property in Muang Kaew sub-district they found twenty stolen potted plants.

He was taken on a reenactment.

His attempts at mitigation lacked cohesion. He claimed that he was just looking after the plants saying he didn't believe they were owned by anyone.

He loves plants, you see, and just wanted to decorate his place that he moved into three months ago.

Police charged him with using a conveyance in pursuit of theft.
