Is the tax/insurance follow the car if if i buy a used one or is it personal of the owner? And if the owner has the blue book in his name i guess there is no credit/outstanding finance, true?

The CTPL insurance is always with the car.

The previous owner could have voluntary insurance on the car as well.

If the owner has the green book then they own the car.

Correct (except it's the Blue Book for car (green is for Bikes ???? )

Our Voluntary (1st class) insurance was still valid for +/-10 months when we transferred the car to my wife's daughter, the insurance only needed a copy of the current registration in the Blue Book and a copy of the iD card of the new owner to change the insurance to the new owner. Only took 2 emails. This was with Tokio Marine Insurance thus YMMV.

Thanks! So i guess the ctpl is a cheaper version but to be fully covered in case of an accident you really need a Voluntary (1st class) insurance as well?

Correct.

CTPL covers not a lot ! I could be wrong, but max is I believe 50.000THB (Someone will hopefully correct if I am wrong).

Always go with Voluntary insurance (1st class also covers your own damage if you are at fault)

The CTPL is there cos a huge number of folk here would not bother with insurance, the thing stuck on the dash is their insurance...????.....So, those folk must pay the CTPL to be able to road tax their ride...

Spot on.

Neighbor's brother, bought (finance) a car in the deal that you could get the Tax back, first year was fine as he got Free 1st class insurance, year after that he wasn't bothered and only got CTPL. (and that is a car that was new around 700.000 THB) ????

When I got my Celi and ran into an accident, they insurred me without problem(3+, Viriyah). The insurance company noted it's a different name on insurance document, but said no problem and did not notify previous owner (I think)

My SIL refuses to buy additional insurance. Told her a headlight unit is 30K ... What happens if you run into a Merc ?

So ... I refuse to drive her around until she does have First Class.

She drives worse than the blind guy on Top Gear !

Side swipes other cars, walls, poles ... Used a whole jar of buffing compound on her the last year alone.

Just waiting for her to come crying - looking for $$$ to pay the bill. Got my 555 all ready !

Thanks for replies! So if the previous owner had 1 st class Voluntary insurance this will follow the car the xx number of months thats left? Or is it normal the prevoius owner will cancel the Voluntary insurance(if there is any) before they sell and get a refund of the months left(like we do in europe)?
