For both Apple and Windows issue -- Elifaint.com - PDFKing

My Firefox browser has been hijacked by Elifant.com and I'm having quite a time trying to rid my laptop of it.

I use a  Mac but I'm sure it's easily able to do the same to a Windows platform.

I discovered how I ended  up with it on my device.      I hit a speed bump one day trying to  use a free PDF reader.    Somehow Adobe wasn't  working out.      I ended up downloading a program called PDF King.

I was in a hurry and clearly didn't do the download carefully.    I believe  however I could have muffed it up no matter what.

On one of the download pages, a box appeared which was "pre checked".      The box was  an  OK for  Elifaint becoming the default browser for  Firefox.    I didn't catch that precheck box while downloading.

When I tried using the uninstall program for PDFKing on my applications folder I was warned that the uninstaller contained malicious programs.     And putting them in the trash didn't resolve the issue.

Has anyone dealt with this matter on a Mac and if so what did you do?

it's not a hijack if you don't read and click next, you agreed to them changing your homepage

but.. you just go in the Firefox options and just change the home page to whatever you want.

But the posters problem seems to be this "PDFKing" (removal)?

Just google and find tons of removal instruction and warnings about PDFKing.

I can't help, never heard.

Would it make you feel better if I said malicious content arrived on my laptop due to deception?

not really, not paying attention and agreeing to stuff isn't deception

and not sure how a homepage change is "malicious content"

here, 2 seconds search on google on how to change a homepage on Firefox

Set or change your home page
  1. Open a tab with the web page you want to use as your home page.
  2. Drag and drop that tab onto the Home button on your toolbar.
  3. Click Yes to set this page as your home page.

if that doesn't work, it's in options and Home and you put the page you want

I get your point, but pre checking a box that has nothing to do with the initial product I too think is deception. However, in this day and age, it happens everywhere and one needs to be a bit more cautious. I am sure the OP will be more cautious from now on as well ????
