Popular Post webfact
Rape/Murder of German tourist: UK press issue warnings to tourists Koh Sichang, or Koh Si Chang, off the east coast of Thailand (Image: ViralPress) The rape/murder of a 27 year old German woman on Koh Si Chang, Chonburi has been reported by the UK tabloid press. The Mirror repeated warnings about backpackers from the UK and Europe traveling to Thailand and quoted the foreign office. They did not state whether these were new warnings or old ones. They said: "British and European backpackers have been killed or injured in a number of high-profile attacks in Thailand in recent years. "UK tourists Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were bludgeoned to death on a beach in Koh Tao, southern Thailand, in 2014. "The Foreign Office warns: "Violent sexual assaults and unprovoked attacks have been reported in tourist destinations across Thailand. "These are particularly common during Full Moon parties and other similar events and late at night near bars. "Drink spiking and date rapes have been reported in tourist destinations around Thailand, with both male and female victims "Be careful about taking drinks from strangers or leaving your drinks unattended, particularly in Koh Tao, Koh Samui, Pattaya and at the Full Moon party on Koh Phangan." The latest attack occurred on Koh Si Chang on Sunday. The victim is believed to be Miriam Beelte from Hildesheim, Germany. A 24 year old Thai man is in custody after a manhunt on the island. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2019-04-09

Popular Post 4MyEgo
I have spoken to a few friends about Thailand who have visited for over a decade, all of their comments were pretty much the same, i.e. Thailand has lost her "LOS" appeal for a number of reasons, the main one is the attacks on foreigners. I live here and have to agree, but she still suites me for my purpose while I am still breathing, but if the air doesn't clear within the next couple of years, I think I will be heading back to the old country and living in some rural town within a couple of hours drive from the big smoke and holiday in Thailand for 2-3 months of the year. Popular Post Sticky Wicket
To be fair it's impossible to stop individual crazies, they are everywhere! However Thailand doesn't have adequate facilities to take care of mentally ill people, submarines etc are much more important. How about defending your people from your people, rather than some imaginary bogeyman. The roads and the scams are much more dangerous 15

However, by being low key and diplomatic about certain things the knowledge about the world and its dangers is not there. Some of those famous guidebooks backpackers use, spend a good deal of time, papering over dangers. It's in thier self interest to do it this way. No doubt countries might threaten to prevent sales of their book in their country IF they were a little more realistic. It's win win for them but might not be in the best interests of the backpacker traveler types. 4

When a western male is mugged by a ladyboy or 3 while staggering home down Beach Rd at 4am there will be a lot of comments and posts on TV that 'he only has himself to blame'. A person should be safe in those circumstances too. A little self-preservation and awareness helps. 7
usviphotography
Traffic accidents excepted, Thailand is a far safer place than the UK. The idea that a single young woman should be trolloping about the globe has always been insane, and hopefully these high profile incidents will put an end to the practice. 1 8 2

Please explain to me what information you have to show this woman was 'trolloping' about the globe. As the definition of trolloping is whoring around, cruising for sex, trolling for some action, tramping around and hooking, I would be interested to hear how you can judge her in this way without any knowledge of her character or actions. 19

A lawless place now days. I think that is a considerable exaggeration, and generalization. This fellow, it appears was a violent brutal thug. Such individuals exist everywhere, and I am not sure that Thailand has a greater proportion than anywhere else. You do have a point that there are elements within this society, that do what they want, how they want, to whoever they want, and are through wealth or "influence" able to avoid the consequences. In as much as this is lawless it stems from a belief that they are above the law, and corruption and wealth allows them to arrange that - Koh Tao was a classic example of this. It is a result of an attitude and practice amongst those who seek (assume) to lead the society that power puts them, either by amnesty or influence, wealth or birthright, beyond the law. In general, though the society remains tolerant, reasonably well behaved and fairly gentle, reflecting perhaps the nature of the people. The risks inherent with the hedonism of the full moon parties exist and are perpetuated within the groups which come here for these events - I don't think they are bothered about or have much interaction (other than commercial) with Thais.

Popular Post kingstonkid
While I agree that women should not have to worry there is as has been stated that these ladies live a sheltered and pampered life in their own countries.I worked in Pakistan for 3 years and part of it was working with staff that came on assignment. These girls showed up on the plane in short skirts, sheer blouses and lacey bras. They had been told before leaving Canda to ensure their dress and clothing was suitable for Pakitan. LOL they just decided that that meant they should wear weather appropriate clothes they felt that they should be allowed and accepted in what they wore no matter. They even showed up to work dressed like that and got upset when the head Pakistani ordered everyone out of the classroom and told them they should leave immediately. Two of the women were sent to get the proper clothes to wear and take them shopping. As to Thailand this weekend I went to Pats and got to see the lovely Farang ladies in full bloom. Low cut tops tight clothes and drunk as a skunk. Let's face it it is not just the guys that have to beware of the Thai ladies. Women that come here also have to be careful as not just are there the Thai men to worry about but let's face it a lot of the male tourists that go to pats are less than honourable. They find a drunk hot looking babe and can walk her to their apartment it is cheaper than a short time girl. 3

Popular Post boonrawdcnx
This is another heartbreaking story of an innocent young woman murdered while all she wanted was a nice vacation in the sun. My sympathy goes out to the loved ones of this poor woman - may she Rest In Peace! The disturbing facts are of course the attitude of the low life scum who murdered her and the already built-in excuses in the police report - “while high on Amphetamins” “ he murdered her because she threatened to report him to the police” ? No 1 standard excuse in Thailand in cases like these when perpetrators are caught - made up by the police. Did the victim speak Thai ? Does this piece of sh.t speak German or English ? I don’t think so! The police report is already trying to shift some of the blame to the victim and tries to imply the man is not fully to blame because he was on drugs - although nobody has seen an official drug test so far. Reading the Thai news he was fully aware of what he did and has no respect for other human beings. Another one of those who should have been aborted before he was born and the the world would be a better place ! And of course we have those weirdos on here who blame the victim - and no it does not happen everywhere in the numbers it happens here - some people in the area there think just because Pattaya is full of prostitutes all other women can be treated as one as well! Popular Post PREM-R
The UK government gives the following advice about crime in Thailand: " If you’re the victim of a crime in Thailand and wish to report it to the Thai police you should do so before leaving the country. If you do not, your case may not be investigated. Be aware that the way the media report crime is different from the UK. Local authorities, including the police, may give detailed press briefings. There have been instances where the victims of crime have been identified and threatened with prosecution by the police for damaging Thailand’s reputation. The poor innocent woman was on a day trip to an island she rented a scooter to explore the island and was brutally raped and murdered! She did the right thing and did not engage in a conversation with the murderer and drove away. He followed her with the intention to rape and murder her. Spare us your story of life in Pakistan where women are treated like cattle - If you go to the beach you dress for the beach - what would you recommend? Winter attire? Or do you think it’s ok to rape and murder somebody because she is dressed in low cut tops and tight clothes?I think the life in “Pats” as you call it between all the prostitutes has clouded your judgment and I think you need professional help - do it as soon as possible!
