I’ve just paid the insurance renewal for my car. Before sending out my new policy the insurance company want to know if I want to pay more for some “government insurance”.

As stevenl said but also you should be aware that you need that to renew your car tax. Even with Class 1 it does not count.

You can buy it separately but It also makes a bit of sense to have both the compulsory and your own insurance from the same company in the event of any claims. 

Having both gov (obligatory) and private insurance with the same company will save you a lot of unneeded hassle if you ever have an accident. 

Definitely just get the govt compulsory auto insurance from the same company you are buying your other auto insurance.....then no need going to someone else to buy it. The govt compulsory insurance of 600 and some baht is the same price at all insurance companies.
