Hi!

I'll be travelling to Bangkok at the end of July to stay there until the end of December/mid January.

My (thai) boyfriend and I are looking to rent a condo for the period Aug 1 - Dec 31 on the north end of the sky train, ideally between Victory Monument and Mo Chit. The location is quite important as my boyfriend will be working in a factory north of Bangkok, so we're trying to minimise his already long commuting time, while staying in a location from which I can easily get around by public transportation.

Now our problem is that we'll be staying there for only 5 months, which is far from the very common 1-year minimum requirement for rental contracts.

I've been googling a bit and found one agency that has a 6-month minimum on most contracts, and was thinking that if there's no other option, we could just pay one month extra and stay for 5 months. This, of course, is not ideal, so I'm wondering if you guys know of better options.

Is there any alternative to this, other than Airbnb and Flat Monthly (both overpriced)?

Would it be possible to negotiate a 5-month lease in exchange for a slightly higher rent?

Any suggestions on sites/agencies that accept short term stays?

Thanks a lot in advance!

There are literally thousands of condos for rent in the area you describe. I would suggest you come to Bangkok a week early, somewhere near BTS Ari then get out and look around. Your boyfriend is Thai, so this will be easy for him to achieve. You will easily get a 5 month deal if you pay all of the rent in advance; even more so if you don't use an agent because the owner will lose 2-4 weeks rent as a commission to an agent.

The key things to ask about are:

Your deposit: Ideally it shouldn't be more than one month

Cost of utilities: You should be paying the government rate for electric. This means you will get the bill from the MEA and pay that. Water should be no more than 20 baht per unit.

Most Thai people would have this sorted in a day or two, leaving a few days for a relaxing break before work starts.

why not look around Rangsit...sounds like he might be working around there...you can use the SRT to get into the city..Rangsit  to Bang Su cost about five THB.  State your budget and get better information.
