Do you know anyone who got AIDS and died in Thailand?

It is, an example of how fact is often more involved / more complex / more juicy than fiction.

That's not all, the farang flew to Townsville to his older sister who was living under total police protection / new name & identity etc., for supplying the names of mastermind drug traffickers in Melbourne to the federal police in Australia.

The next twist, she negotiated a supply of AIDS cocktails for the brother working in Bkk (at that time the cocktail was a new concept, available but incredibly expensive and not available on national health etc. The cocktail tabs were transported to Bkk by an unnamed source every month.

It all fell apart when the guy (now deceased) in Bkk tred to change the pick up point in Bkk, the address, contact details became confused and the monthly supply of cocktail went back to Australia which is why full blown AIDS quickly took over.

Yep stranger than fiction.

Must have been a Junkie at some point as well. Given the background of the drugs.

Yes, ultimately it was evident the whole family were involved in a big way with drugs and violence. The guy working in Bkk was just as scaly as the rest of his family at home, he had several ya-ba sellers under his supervision in Bkk (drugs from the North). He kept all of this a close secret. All of his income was spent in paying young boys / teenage boys for sex. He kept a low profile at his apartment and his main employers knew nothing of his activities for many years and were shocked when they were informed, they quickly changed their whole approach to selecting / monitoring staff (it was a school).

I know a guy who claim s he got HIV from a LB.
But, he also was active with BR street workers no condom so who knows.
He moved back to his home country after diagnosis.
Nice guy unfortunately  used very poor judgement.

Probably was getting up the backside from the LB which is a massive risk

Yes, he thought he obtained it from beef injections.

But, the concern I guess would also be his activity with the BR workers and the possibility that he spread it.

You can do that if you want to. There is no rule that says you cannot do it.

Then you could do a border hop for another 60 day entry as long as you do it on or before September 24th. And then another 30 day extension.

I wonder if you are a medic involved in HIV/AIDS medicine. I am someone who worked 15 years as Associate Specialist in the field of HIV/AIDS and STD's in UK. To your comment, people with HIV virus can die despite of medication fairly quickly if they have oportunistic infections such as Tuberculosis, Pneumocystis Pneumonia, Hepatitis C. These infection affect further the immune system. People have also mutiple drug resistences due to non complience to medication. Pneumonia can kill within few days. This is happening even today despite of the wide range of treatment for HIV.

Well said... TV is the hub of experts.... Not to say there aren't some good ones. MS>

I've known three Englishmen die from Aids. We never knew two of them had it till they were dead.

One of them went with LBs and girls and the other two just went with the women.

One of them was a real nasty piece of work who knocked the girls for their money every chance he got and bragged about it. We found out after he'd died that he was HIV and because he'd contracted it from a Thai girl he then made it his business to infect as many other TGs as possible on purpose while he still could.

He eventually went blind and suffering from an assortment of other maladies died in a hospital in the UK.

Some of us can remember when the girls used to let falangs have unprotected sex. Thank God for every bodies sake those days are now far and few between especially when vile hateful creatures like the one we knew were doing the rounds in Pattaya. If these stories don't frighten you then they should.

These three have all gone in the last 15 years so make up your own mind if there really is a treatment that can arrest this disease.

I would argue that the unprotected sex acts may be at an all time high.

Over 90% of the girls will do it no problem.

That is reality sorry my friend.

HIV + girls usually are not too concerned about wearing condoms

If any shred of what you said is true they died because they did not take their medication or were unaware that they were positive which is hard to imagine as you don't just die overnight of AIDS and any doctor would immediately know the symptoms. And again where does one find out about the cause of death of someone you have absolutely no relation too? POZ people rarely if ever disclose their status to anyone other than their immediate partners and trust me I will guarantee that someone around you or someone you know is HIV positive and you will never ever know about it because they are too busy leading happy, long, healthy lives. So everyone make sure you are tested regularly if you are sexually active and know that if you do become positive you will be just fine and will carry on with proper treatment.

Question for the med types:

How close are they to developing an HIV vaccine? I know about PrEP. But what I mean is a once-and-done jab. Which has to be the next billion dollar drug.

A vaccine is going to be tricky for several reasons and the best guess is 10-X years it really just depends on who you ask. However, long acting injectable treatment is in the works but still on the horizon. Their are several clinical trials currently underway.

Which is a very short way to explain a complex answer and as for those long acting treatments being available in Thailand it is another story. We can all cross our fingers and hope both will arrive soon.

I think all medical policies exclude AIDs. Has to be treated by your countries free medical services or at your own expense. I think in Thailand meds at least 10k THB a month

Thinking is a waste of time if you don’t think correctly....

I had a full blood test for hep c and aids about 1 year ago,

wise enough practice, was informed then that aids medication was about 2000 baht a month for non Thais...

Pills for a farang in Thailand 500 baht? Are you sure? The most common drug now an all in one pill. They used to get 3 different ones taken 8pm every night. Makes them pretty groggy too

there are over 20 possible combinations, the baseline old regimen is just under 500, most people moved on to newer ones, indeed in one pill, but when somebody on an older combo is doing fine they can stay on it.

Are you in cuckoo land. I've rarely had a girl in the last 10 years not demand a condom.

It is interesting. Girl I knew contracted it diagnosed about 4 years ago. Back then it was 3 different pills every night and the hospital would only give them 3 months supply. This made it very difficult for an infected person to conceal as there was a trip to the hospital every three months, and sometimes at a long distance if person living away from designated medical area. Also hard to conceal taking three different pills every night and hide the meds. The girl I knew seemed to be just about drunk after taking the medication although I think in time they learn to cope with it. For this reason many stop taking the medication or took it sporadically. I used to hear the doctor at the clinic chastising many people for not taking their meds correctly. She knew straight away as there counts had risen.

The girl I knew as previously mentioned straight back on the game. She wouldn't have given a tinkers cuss if she gave it to anyone else and probably charging a premium for bareback. She has since met a bloke and I know for a fact he doesn't know she's sick.

As far as someone saying the disease is still manageable after CD4 drops below 200 (AIDs) I'm not so sure these people have the same outlook as a person with HIV who got on meds early. I believe their life expectancy is better than what it used to be but by then the damage has been done and they will not live a long life. I was also advised that the HIV meds are detrimental in themselves if taken over a long period.

Also see a few saying that HIV on meds that the Viral loads should decrease to zero, or undetectable and this I believe to be true however should the person become sick, as normal people do with flu etc, or particularly with secondary disease such as hep, viral loads can spike suddenly and become present again. Or can be undetectable in blood but present in fluids. It is not a guarantee. There was a major study over 2 years I think.... results due out some time ago but at the time it was believed there were no know cases of an infection from a person on properly taken meds.

One last thing. I do believe the majority of the guys who contract it, whether they admit it or not have indulged in anal sex (receiving) or used intravenous drugs. Interestingly though an army doctor here told me guys with a foreskin are at a higher risk than guys who are cut. Reason being the virus can only live outside the body for a split second but it can make it's way under the foreskin apparently. Not 100% sure if this is true or not

Where did I suggest that they did die overnight or did I state that they were known to have Aids prior to death.

How many HIV positive girls have you been with.

Come on be real. A prostitute with a STD especially HIV is hardly gonna tell her punters about it now is she.

100% agree with you on this after a recent trip to Bkk.

3 out of 4 didn't care.

2 girls just went to jump straight on and number 3 didn't care either way. Number 4 insisted.

I have always found this to be the case in Thailand. I am talking FL girls though as opposed to BG.

I never go BB and always take my own dom's.

As for local "normal" girls very rare a dom is mentioned and amazingly they aren't normally on any sort of oral contraception. No wonder there are so many single mummies here.

I did used to know some girls , well not personally know them , just friends of friends who came down from the villages for HIV treatment in CM hospitals .

Pretty young ladies who came to CM for treatment , see them going to hospital in the daytime.........................and then see them working in LK bars at night , to fund their treatment .

I would see them getting cosy with felangs and I contemplated giving them a quiet warning , but , I could hardly follow her around all night and warning everyone .

So, not my business to say anything

'to fund their treatment .'

Hmmm

HIV test for both parents is standard for pregnancy in 2012, but who can tell what was tested back then.

When my wife fell pregnant she was tested for hiv, but I was not required to take the test.  They explained that the father of the child was only asked if the mother had hiv.

Well you would not know if they'd be likely to tell you if they're HIV positive or not then would you.

And how do you know what's so unpleasant about waking up next to one then. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean.

Like the rest of us they're probably what brought you to the LOS in the first place. It's a bit of a trot to come and look at Buddhist temples isn't it.

I wouldn't waste my time retorting. Every one of these guys posts is sarcastic, sniping or rhetorical. Never anything positive or factual to add.

In this case did actually make a statement about hookers funding HIV treatment, and as treatment here for Thais 100% free....Wrong. caught out making up fairy stories [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

Meaning their would have been several serious health problems over time that would have required seeing a doctor who would have recognized the symptoms of advanced HIV and put them on medication immediately. And my question was how did you know they had HIV?

Thing is, there are different strains ... if medication is working for you, and pick up a different strain, things can really get complicated. Play safe.
