Calcium

Featured Replies

Hello to all!!!  I just read about a person who has some dirty water issues and requested information about what to do.  Seems this is an all too common issue all over Thailand.  I did find some useful information with respect to two stage filters and the placement of those filters but my question really is," What to do about calcium?  My wife and I have our own well, we have 2 separate tanks  a 2000l and a 2500l and a tall cylendrical filters after the tanks but before the pump, Our water is not brown as I believe the sediment settles and then the water is filtered, I just can't seem to stop the Calcium.  Clogs everything...  Ideas???

For this (a common problem with well water here) you need a resin exchange filter.

I have one, actually I have a 3 stage filter system: a sediment filter, then a charcoal filter and lastly the resin. Having the sediment filter first extends the longevity of the other two.

You have to recharge the resin beads periodically with salt water. Basically you drain out the filter, leaving in the resin beads, then add a salt water mixture (high concentration), let it sit n hour or two then flush it out. What comes out will have a strong metallic taste and look frothy and need to be disposed of somewhere away from your garden. Once what is coming out tastes like plain water you've flushed enough.

There are a variety of resin filters on the market including some fancy ones that are supposed to do the recharging with salt water automatically, it gets very messy and costly and I prefer to do it manually
