Interesting Observation E85 fuel

Featured Replies

My Honda City in general day to day use on 95 fuel will average 1.5b per km

Using the E85 economy fuel it averages 2.1b per km so that whilst much cheaper to purchase the E85 consumption is consideraby higher.

E85 21b ltr    95 - 29.5b ltr (PTT prices)

Obviously your experience may be different but I was quite surprised at this outcome.

Anyone else noticed this ?

Your observation is as expected. Have you tried E20? I find my suzuki, while the ecu is tuned for E10 91, seems to run a bit better on E10 95. I've used E20 several times but it seems to idle a little rougher on it. Running on E85 is better for the environment.

I did use E20 due to lack of availability of E85  at one point, but cant say I really noticed any difference in performance and  it wasn't long enough to do a fuel analysis as I did with the other two fuels.

I think ethanol has a lower calorific value so.........

When a engine is design and capable to run on different fuels the ECU adjusts it's advisable to stick to one that's always available to you in your area.

Chopping & changing is of no benefit I would always use the cheapest fuel available that the vehicle can use.

Practically speaking, E85 will help your car burn cleaner, run cooler and is essentially is 105 octane fuel.

Calorific value of ethanol is much lower than gasoline. E85 will achieve about 76% of the fuel mileage of 100% gasoline.
