Recommendations please : commercial or hospital optometrist service in CM

Featured Replies

Looking for recommendations for either a commercial or a hospital optometrist service in CM.

Main concern if using a place where the staff have proper training. Patient is a Thai female 15 years old.

Very approximate costs also appreciated.

Thanks.

Not necessary for whom desired. Just where are certified trained optometrists?

Without knowing what you want done it is impossible to give any estimate of costs.

Proper training? In Thailand?

You could always ask for their proof of training, but in LOS fake certificates are little problem to obtain.

My experiences say optometrists simply check your vision for glasses.  I have not no problems using a couple of the bigger chains for prescriptions and having glasses made, single vision and bi-focal, over the years.

For a MD ophthalmologist's examination and diagnosis of eye problems, e.g., cataracts, both Ram and Bangkok Hospital Chiangmai can help you.  And both hospitals have ophthalmologist specialists that come from the CMU med school only on certain days and times.

Hats off to the OP for getting his gf's vision checked.  Yeah, it must be pretty bad.. Lol.

So you rush to say it's my GF who must have pretty bad eyesight.

Truth is it's my teenage Thai granddaughter, you need to get your thinking above your navel occasionally, if that's possible.

If it's simply a question of correcting poor vision, then we've found the branch of Tokyo Optics at Airport Plaza good.  The testing was as thorough and professional as any I've had in the UK and the prescriptions spot on.  If you have reason to think that she has a medical issue that needs investigating, Noise' post above is the advice to follow.

I use the Tokyo Optics at Kad Suan Kaew and find them equally good.I have friends who also use various branches of Tokyo Optic.

If you suspect a problem needing more than a prescription, then I suggest the Ophthalmic Outpatients on the 12th floor of the Sriphat Medical Centre. I have my annual checkup done there, by a doctor, for 500 baht, so I guess an initial evaluation would cost similar. Wait times are good there. I have done a walk in with a problem and waited less than an hour.

If you don't know Sriphat it is the private wing of Suan Dok (Maharaj) Hospital on Suthep Road. The phone number on my most recent ophthalmic checkup appointment is 053-936900-1
