Right across the street from The Dukes fish can be had for free right out of the river!...

I would recommend Makro over Muang Mai market for fish. They have a much larger selection of fish and if you look, you will some of the fish are still moving a little.

I always laughed at the tour vans taking people to Ton Phayom... as filthy dirty as any in LOS.  Ironic, because almost diaganolly from Royal Project CMU, whose variety is limited, but almost always has some lettuce picked that day or very recently, and is the best I have seen since living in California.  They fly it to a few fancy restaurants in bkk, among other places.  Wasn't overly impressed with the Consulate area, but if you are not concerned about pesticides, echoli, etc.. go for it... don't know about the fish.

Perhaps if the OP could give the price range of what he regards as cheaper, he may get better advice.

Each time should be in 3 to 4 hundred  kilo . It use to prepare as food to sell and also sell to other small shop at the surroundings  villages

Try a fish farm, thereby cutting out the middleman.
