Jatuporn sees government collapsing within six months

Red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan urged followers to be patient as squabbling among coalition partners would cause the Prayut government to collapse within six months.

Chatuporn was speaking during the weekly get-together activity of members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) at the Peace and Coffee and Library coffee shop on the fifth floor of Imperial Lat Phrao shopping mall.

“We should let the government work for three or six months. It will not go further than that,” Jatuporn, chairman of the UDD, said, adding that the time was not right for the UDD to fight with the government as such a move would prompt the coalition partners to unite.

“If we step in sooner, they will make peace among themselves sooner,” Jatuporn said.

He said Thais are not excited about who would hold which positions in the new Cabinet of Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

“This is because no one will be better than his/her peers in the Cabinet. The public will only see whose image will be uglier,” he added,

He said the government would be short-lived because of the accumulated dissatisfaction among leading members of coalition partners who failed to win Cabinet seats.

“Those who failed to get Cabinet seats will grow increasingly dissatisfied while those who won the seats do not think the government will last long and will rush to rob the country. We will let them do it and catch them later. This is why I am telling you to be patient,” Jatuporn said.

But, he cautioned, after the Prayut government collapses, the 250 senators, who were appointed by the National Council for Peace and Order, would elect Prayut as the prime minister again because the current charter empowers the senators to take part in the election of PM for the first five years.

As a result, Jatuporn said, several organisations have already started campaigns for the charter to be amended.

He added that political parties need to seek public support for charter amendments because such amendments would be hard to make without public sentiment in support of changes to the master law.

Six months from when ? there is not even a government yet. Prayuth is still in the middle of deciding which MPs get the biggest bribes and who are willing to undertake his national scams as his appointed ministers. Then of course once that is agreed he has to get agreement of the big boss to ensure that they are fully focused on returning the real Thai people to the living standards and social obediance of the 19th century so that the top ones can continue to rape the nation of its wealth.   Only when that has been signed off will Prayuth have permission to call his corrupt lackeys a government, only then can the six month countdown begin.

The Army is not going to just sit back and allow anyone from the Pro Thaksin parties to come to power. It this non formed government is incapable of running the country effectively soon the Army will act once again, declare a coup and just restore our dear General/Premier to what he was for the past five years. Or maybe the die is cast and the Army Commanding General who just retired is waiting to take over when the Army acts. Fun times ahead in the Land of Smiles.

Great policy, that will surely please "the people."

If I was looking for an Oracle, it wouldn't be Jatuporn.

That doesn't make his prediction incorrect, in fact, I believe he is too generous. I give them two months, if they even get to the starting line that is...

The government should have fallen by now when they could not set up the government 4 months since election. A new election should have been the normal democratic process. The 4 months without a government has hurt Thailand economically. Prayut should be held responsible for this fiasco.

Prime Minister AK on the horizon with his article 47?

Men with big sticks can and will quell any unrest????

I am sure they want to.

I hope all countries and companies will consider nothing the 'government' agrees to can be trusted.

If a real democratic government ever comes about I hope it will investigate any contracts being made to assess whether corruption was involved and will punish the guilty.

No problem, this regime can press the "C" button any time. Case closed

A collapse of this so-called 'regime' does sound nice...but If the current Junta of noxious rabid swine actually implodes...the army will just put another Junta of noxious rabid swine together.

It will be interesting if the Charter can be changed. They need like a Boston Thai Tea Party

Lets hope that the generals will feel remorseful and regret their past transgressions and decide to resign from their government positions and give in to another election. Generals normally has very high standards and conduct.

You got right...

Posters here are absolutely correct to point out that there is in fact no (even allegedly) 'democratic government' in place yet; the junta continues in force - together with its beloved Article 44.

And we must never, ever, forget: a sad event is likely in the offing, which will render all politics impermissible for a good while after that ...

lol, even if it did collapse it would just go back to how it was before the election.

The person who appointed the non elected non democratic Jatuporn as a "UDD" leader would know all about robbing the country!
