Where is this awesome beach in Khemmarat?

Featured Replies

W T F is Khemmarat.......?????

OK ....googled it...........So I would hazard a guess that the beach is on the Mekong.......????!

Just south of of the island of Mukdahan in the ocean of Mekong. Really thought just sand does not make a beach. Notice the land on the other side of water? The island of Laos?

I usually think of nice pristine clear waters as "beaches"? About 10 KMs south of Khemmarat there is section of the Mekong River that has unusual rock formations and a canyon.  There are some resorts in the area and you can do boat trips thru the area and stop to visit rock formations and designs in the rocks (including Micky Mouse?).  They also had a large camping area where Thai's enjoy watching the sunrise as it's one of the most easterly points of Thailand - it must bring good luck!  It's a nice area area but for true lake beaches there are better ones around Ubon Rat.  Saturday night they also have great festivities in Khemmarat itself with closed off streets, great food, street vendors etc. and makes for a pleasant night.

And yes Lao is just a few meters away but the Riverine Navy or Thai Immigration may prevent picking up cheap alcoholic beverages and ciggies!!
