precautions for a newbie

Hellow everyone, my name is Alex, 28 and i am from the netherlands.

My question is regarding my own security while staying at pattaya. Ive already booked an apartment for a week.

Reading through sites people always say its not safe bringing a girl to your own place if its not an hotel room.

Any special precautions

Normal precautions.  Keep in mind many Thais will steal from you if the opportunity presents itself.  Watch your money, passport and cell phone.  Remember also that you are not their first customer...and will not be their last...protect yourself from disease...

 

Advise against taking a ladyboy to your room...they are a man in ladies clothing...some have been known to get violent...????

I've never had the pleasure of paying a bar fine but I've read enough times that it's important to do a sex test before you pay the bar fine. No, not a disease test (but be aware of that too), a hand confirmation of your date's equipment to confirm that she really is a she, if that is what you are looking for. Haha .... I met my first on a dating site and she was waiting for me when I got off the plane. Same for every subsequent trip. No wiggle room at all. Thank Gawd, that kept me safe.

No, there are at least two of us. I have never paid a bar fine and never will. I never go to bars anyway, or gogos, or massage parlours. Never seen the point.

Be careful when having a shower with a lady in the room. Don't leave anything valuable in your trousers/pants. A mistake i made, twice, and lost some money.

My advice is don't be too worried about taking a girl back to your room. Normal sensible precautions in dealing with someone you don't know will see you okay.  Talk to her before hand, find out about her.  Check her ID yourself at some point, if possible take a pic of it on your phone, that will warn her that you are on top of your personal security.  Make sure, if it's a bar fine, that you pay the Mamasan directly (so she may remember you) and that you know which bar it is.  Don't go out for the evening with any credit /debit cards, or with your wallet.  Just take what cash you think you will need for that night. As to hiding your valuables, that can be a bit of an issue, as safes are not always the safest places.   A well locked case is the best bet as its difficult to pick in a short time.   I had a small lockable case that I placed within the larger lockable case.   Never drink a drink she gives you, or has access to.  if you leave the room, take your drink with you or pour another one. Never but never accept pills or drugs from the girl. Never leave any phone, iPad or laptop around. And as others have said, if Ladyboys are your thing, then be very careful, as they can be mental cases, stronger than you, and often armed with a knife, or worse. if they are not your thing, then make damn sure you don't pick one up by mistake. Finally, make a note on your phone of the number for the Police, Tourist Police, Tourist Helpline and your Embassy.  Also take a pic of your passport pages. Guard your phone well and keep your passport safe in the room at all times.

And remember to try to blend in as best you can!
