webfact
‘Don’t panic’ over bombings, stimulus measures coming, says Finance Minister By THE NATION Uttama Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana on Friday afternoon (August 2) asked people not to be panic following a series of small explosions in Bangkok. Despite a drop in the SET index, Uttama said he believes that the bombings would not much affect investor confidence, as the authorities would be able to control the situation. He added that the ministry would soon launch stimulus measures for the second half to take care of the farm sector and respond to the volatile global economy. The government will also have to seek new revenue sources, given the its recent adjustment of the budget deficit to Bt469 billion from the previous Bt450 billion. As of 13.36pm, the SET index had dropped 1.23 per cent to 1,678.78. Popular Post candide
From a Khaosod article: Defense minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan told press at Government House at 10am that two suspects have been apprehended and that he suspects political motivations behind the bombings. “Perhaps it’s because the NCPO [National Council for Peace and Order] just ended its rule,” he said, referring to the transition from the junta to a nominally elected government. “I don’t know for sure.” 2 1
