Not often I turn off the fans outside the late December window but I have done so a few times in recent days, too chilly in my room otherwise. Plus I'm wearing socks to try to warm cold feet.

Have you guys also noticed unusually cold temperatures? It's not showing up in the weather reports and when I go outside it's not as noticeable so I wonder if something about my building has changed.

Too chilly in your room? Wearing socks to warm your feet? Are you sure you're living in Pattaya this time of the year or somewhere like Australia or New Zealand?

Pattaya has been very nice in the evenings and early mornings. Nice breeze and decent weather indeed.

Here is my crazy theory, your neighbors left, right,up,down all have their aircon on + a few overcast days results in the concrete of the whole building being significantly cooler..and hence your cold feet.

For me, cold starts below 20-22 degrees C, and I haven't seen that for years...

I have my aircon turned on at 25 degrees C, only in the night, and it is working all night, meaning that the temperature never goes below 25...hardly cold...

LOL. I havent turned my air-con off in three years. Previously we always used to get a month or so in winter when it wasnt needed all day every day, but no more.

In the last 4 years in Pattaya I have only used my AC a few times especially this June and July. Ceiling fans and a window breeze suffices.

Yep, it is a little cool in the morning, comfortable, refreshing. I can breathe freely on the balcony! Does not last too long into the day. Generally spoken, TH is too hot for me. So I enjoy these windy days. Looking forward to being three weeks back in Europe in october!

That's OK if you don't mind the humidity, but I don't like it. So my air-con stays on all the time but set to around 27 degrees. This keeps the humidity down to a level that I like (around 55%).

Monday and Tuesday was notably colder (and less humid) than what's typical this time of the year, the breeze almost feels like what passes for winter here around December, but usually the 'winter' breeze is southerly, this recent cold winds seem to come from the west.

Amazing how excited people get if the temperature changes by a degree or two, or if there is a heavy rain.  If it isn't global warming, it is the next ice age.

My thermometers don't lie (I have several, to keep then honest), and my room temperature has come down from its usual 'just over 30°C' to 'just over 29°C' and the reason for the 1°C drop is due to fewer or no sunshine hours on overcast days of late. It will take a while for the interior temperatures of a condo to cool down after consecutive cloudy days though. The temperature of internal concrete floors probably lag behind exterior temperatures by at least a few days.

As a result, my fan is used on level 1 instead of level 2. That one degree drop does make a difference, but to call 29°C with humidity in the 70-80% range is a little strange. I only use air conditioning to sleep, which is always set to a very chilly 27°C. Concrete floors can, surprisingly, feel cool/cold to the feet even at these ambient room temperatures. My bedroom floor stays cooler all day just from 5-8 hours of air conditioning set to 27°C.

An alternative explanation is weight loss then. I was already kind of lean (18%) but now I'm on the verge of very lean (a little below 13%). I guess I should be happy to use the fans a little less now.

I'm sure if you just opened the window and/or the balcony door at night you'd find the air nice and cool with a decently strong breeze and wouldn't need to be blowing money on aircon all night. Wouldn't even really need to use a fan either when sleeping.

It's ok, he's a high-roller. 3 years of never turning off the aircon is chump change.

Actually my bill seems quite small. Usually around 50B/day for air-con, oven, fridge-freezer, big TV, hifi, ceiling fans etc.

I have it set to 27 degrees so the cooling part doesn't come on too often.

Unless you are by the ocean? simply not possible in most areas, the breeze, if any, would be blocked out by the screens, the dogs and other critters of the night would be a constant annoyance, not to mention the heat, humidity and polluted air. Happy to pay a few baht for the comfort of AC set at 25c ????

Sorry, I don't understand the meaning of your sarcasm/humour or whatever it is supposed to be. Please explain why owning thermometers has anything to do with my social activities. They don't restrict my outdoor excursions at all.

It's a simple concept. 4 bedrooms and the living room - 5 thermometers. Thermometers are essential when you run air conditioners. They will indicate immediately if your air conditioner is not working efficiently. You can pick the up for a couple of hundred baht.

That works great if you sleep at night, but what about if one sleeps in the day (or gets up late in the morning)? It's impossible to get a good breeze with curtains closed and of course the sunshine comes beaming in if they're open. I blow money on aircon in the day, not at night. I don't even consider it blowing money. It's called living in comfort, a necessary cost of living in Thailand. If the cost of this comfort became unaffordable, it would be time to leave.

My bedroom has been noticeably cooler these last couple of weeks.  The air-con has been set at 26 degrees and has hardly been activated during the night hours, just the fan blowing. It is very odd weather for this time of the year, lots of cloudy days, but very little rain.  Actually, it's rather pleasant.

LOL.  Definitely some form of climatic OCD.  Why not stick a humidity reader, and wind gauge in every room as well just to stay extra busy and earn some bonus points?  Post the results here for analysis.

The last couple of nights when I have gone into an airconditioned establishment I have been cold.

"airconditioned establishment" .... Depending what kind of "establishment", I think many of them offer "belly warmers".
