Prince of Songkla University’s Faculty of Engineering has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to set up a 5G testing and research centre in the university.

The faculty has also been put in charge of setting up the regulatory sandbox for 5G testing.

Assoc Professor Dr Tanit Chalermyanont, dean of the engineering faculty and chair of the committee tasked with the 5G testing and setting up a research centre, said: “The engineering faculty is ready to drive the 5G initiative, which is consistent with the road map for NBTC. We have a modern curriculum for telecommunications that has been certified by the Council of Engineers for Electrical Communication Engineering. We also have professors and researchers from various fields collaborating as interdisciplinary teams. We can link their research to this 5G infrastructure.

“Many uses of great potential have been included in this project such as tele-health systems, security, intelligent transportation system, Industrial 4.0, smart farm, internet of things (IoT), and big data. We believe this 5G project will bring broad and concrete benefits to not just entrepreneurs but also to our communities, especially in the South.

“Those who want to join us in any activities or in testing products or anything related to 5G can submit a request to participate through the 5G regulatory sandbox coordinator.”

The engineering faculty is ready to drive the 5G initiative

Before they do, maybe they should check out the links below. So, incidentally, should everyone else ready to swallow the hype about 5G bringing us a wonderful new digital world that's all rainbows and unicorns.

There are thousands of peer-reviewed studies showing that electronic radiation emitted by the much more powerful fifth generation mobile comms systems is not only potentially hazardous to human health but to every living thing on the planet, including the animals and plants upon which we rely for food.

Entire populations are being used as guinea pigs, without their consent, to test technology which may cause cancer and a range of other serious illnesses - against which, significantly, insurers are refusing to offer cover.

5G will also usher in the Internet of Things, the digital springboard for the launch of state surveillance systems along the lines of those predicted by George Orwell in his precient "Big Brother" novel, 1984

By the time 5G is up and running and we all being irradiated and spied on 24/7, it will be too late to complain - which is what thousands of concerned scientists, medical profesionals, environmentalists and  citizen groups around are now doing.

Their pleas are falling on mainly deaf ears among the governments, businesses and the mass media conglomerates which stand to make vast profits from the 5G roll-out. They are playing down the dangers and resisting demands for thorough, independent testing before 5G hits the streets.

A few students playing around in a sandbox at Songkla University won't cut the mustard.
