Trump says Melania has 'gotten to know' Kim Jong Un, but they have never met

BIARRITZ, France (Reuters) - Melania Trump has never met Kim Jong Un, or even spoken to him, but U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that his wife has "gotten to know" the North Korean leader and, like him, believes in the reclusive country's potential.

Trump, who has met Kim three times since last year as he tries to persuade him to give up the North Korean nuclear weapons program, told a news conference at the G7 summit in France that he had come to know Kim "extremely well," and suggested that his wife had too.

"The first lady has gotten to know Kim Jong Un and I think she'd agree with me, he is a man with a country that has tremendous potential," Trump said, as Melania watched impassively from the audience.

White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham later clarified that Melania had never met Kim.

"President Trump confides in his wife on many issues including the detailed elements of his strong relationship with Chairman Kim – and while the First Lady hasn't met him, the President feels like she's gotten to know him too," she told reporters.

Melania did not accompany Trump to any of his three meetings with Kim, which took place in June last year in Singapore, in Hanoi in February, and on the border between North and South Korea in June.

While Trump has developed a cordial relationship with Kim, and often speaks highly of him, there has been scant progress in the U.S. aim of getting North Korea to denuclearize.

Trump has said he and Kim agreed at their last meeting to resume working-level talks, but these have yet to happen and North Korea has conducted multiple missile tests since while accusing Washington of breaking a pledge to stop joint military exercises with South Korea.

So you posted without reading the article, then.

What is good for her, that she kept her mouth shut while het husband told again a clear lie?

Won't react to your other comment, only meant to distract from the topic at hand.

It gets more surreal as the days fly by. This guy has no idea what the emoluments laws are all about. He is itching for an indictment.

  • Popular Post

Well over the last couple of years she certainly has got to know what her husband is like.

Can just see and feel the love. ????

Melania to Trump: "You can keep lying all you want, but keep my name out of it you freakin psycho."

I would expect that Melania is very disappointed of guys. On top of it Jeffrey Epstein indroduced her to Donald Trump.

I can hear a divorce and wedding bells coming up. There someone gets to feel the pain not only lying to his wife, but to the whole country.

Maybe she's face-timing with "little rocket man"?

Her "kidneys" are looking healthy, that operation was a success evidently.

About the only time she smiles is in the company of Obama or Trudeau...

Yes, her "Be Best" campaign has been in inspiration for all of those who have difficulties negotiating the byways of Basic English. But, apparently, to few others. What has that gone? Exported to Slovenia?

And of course as a testament to her sense of honour, there's the matter of her claim to have a degree from an imaginary university. Because claiming an imaginary degree from a genuine university would be wrong.

Picture says it all. And in that photo, Trump looks like he accidentally ate a vegetable.

Am I right to assume that those who constantly accuse Trump for 'this' and blame him for 'that', you've all met him? I make that assumption based on the fact you all seem to know him awfully well.

Meanwhile...the world still waits for Obama's academic records (or lack thereof) to be un-sealed.

Nice try though.

Nice case of doublethink. Or doesn't it count that Trump won't let his schools release his academic records?

Young Justin has Mounties for his  security detail. No one will be getting near him.

We're told she speaks seven languages, so maybe that includes Korean?

Thank goodness she was able to get an Epstein Visa.

In what way does criticism of any President depend on personal knowledge of the person in question? There's a huge amount of independent data on Trump's lies and sleaziness.

Are you aware that he donated money from his charity to himself?

  • Popular Post

It’s been a constant barrage of “what did trump do today” stories since he has taken up the position of POTUS. The media just spews out a bunch biased opinions on a daily basis about him, yet guess what? There he is, sitting in the Oval Office. The president. He will be re-elected, too.

When you mention "Be Best" - She's one of the few (if not only) FLOTUS that has publicly disputed POTUS by literally humiliating him through her official statement for his racist remarks. I wish she did that more often. The man deserves it.

Who's "blaming" him for anything?

What an odd defense?

He's been in the public eye for 50 years, had a long-running TV reality show and has never been shy about sharing his innermost thoughts. Most know him as well as they know the drunk down at the end of the bar, or our racist Grandpa telling us about "the coloreds" at Thanksgiving.
