Rangers and rescue personnel spent eight hours saving a female elephant who had got stuck in quicksand in the Phu Phan National Park in Sakon Nakhon in Thailand's north east.

A video collection of still shots of some of the rescue was posted by Sanook who said that it was 7 pm and getting very dark by the time it was all over.

Thirty rescuers spent the day helping out.

The lady in question was a 49 year old pachyderm called "Phang Nimnuan" weighing in at four tons.

She had probably gone to the area to eat some banana leaves and got stuck.

She was park of a project initiated by Her Majesty the Queen between 2009 and 2010 during the reign of Rama IX.

Bit like trying to get a bar buffalo out when she falls between two bar stools

On the other hand, using two or three buffaloes to get her out of there would have been better than doing it to human strength alone.
At home, in Brittany, peasants still use their Breton horses to help a tractor in great difficulty

She also has a habit of falling in the supermarket too.
